Here's my dilemma, I want the new Dodge diesel truck, my 95 has been an excellent truck, in 9 years of ownership, I have only been stuck twice, once the passenger side battery exploded, another the batteries just went dead. So needless to say, I am very satisfied with this truck. Now with wife and kids, I need a bigger truck and would prefer a crew cab. The wife likes the cab size of the ford f350 crew cab, I have to agree with her there, but the dodge has the cummins. A chevy is not an option, my diesel suburban has cost me more to maintain than my dodge. Does anyone have measurement differences for the back seat of a dodge versus the back of a crewcab ford f350? Also, when is dodge going to listen to us and build a real crewcab, not just an extended cab with normal opening doors?

Dodge is approximately 4 inches short in the back seat. Personally I like it because I rarely have people back there and it allows for a tighter turning radius. There have been rumors of a "crew cab" as early as 2005 but here we are 8 months from production and still nothing we can proove.

surfbeetle,

I had a 2000 Ford CC and currently have the 03 Dodge CTD 4-door. IMHO Ford had the edge over Dodge on plushness/roominess in the back seat. But Dodge definitely wins out in the uitility/versitility area. Fords back seat didn't (dont know if they changed anything) fold up or down so putting things back there other then people was a pain. With the fold up rear seat and the optional fold-down tray, plus the wider opening door (another complaint I had with Fords back seat), Dodge's rear seat is much more versitile. And unless you have adults riding in the rear seat on a regular basis, which I dont, I think the Dodge is a better set-up. I would like to see Dodge increase the back seat area, but even as is, I still prefer the Dodge.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a friend with a "Crew-Cab" Ford, and mine is the "Extended Cab" 4-Door Dodge. His takes two times backing to turn around, while I make the turn around without backing in the same size area's. He made the comment to me just last week, "Sure do like them doors on that Dodge".

I have heard nothing but praise from the riders in my rear seat and some of them have been some pretty big people. The truck will fit in a normal sized garage and is pretty maneuverable in a parking lot. The fold-down floor would be reason enough for me to opt for the Dodge.

I still have my doubts that Dodge will make a crew cab. Ford offers and extended cab and a crew cab, but with Dodge's quad cab, I don't think there is enough market to justify making a crew cab. I think they basically just write off that market to Ford, and Dodge doesn't really care that you can't buy a Ford crew cab with a Cummins.

What I would rather see is a short wheel base Quad Cab with a 7' box. It would still be a foot shorter than a LWB, but would be adaquate for towing a 5er. A 6' 3" box in a HD truck is just to useless IMHO.

If you go to www.kbb.com you can find all the specs on interior room. I've driven both a f-350 crew cab and a 2500 quad cab. The difference in turning radius is amazing.

I've had adults in teh back of my truck for small trips and they're fine. Heck, I rode in the back for a 4 hours trip and I was ok.

I have a faimly too and 99% of the time, it's only the kids back there anyway and they're smaller than adults.

Nick

The back seat on the '03+ is a helluva lot bigger than the 02- extended cab. I sold a '96 to get my '03, so I do know...

I routinely have 4 adults in my truck, and they never complain about the legroom. Sure, some are bigger, but the Dodge QuadCab seems sufficient.

Since you are talking about KIDS, you have nothing to worry about.

At 13 & 15 the "kids" are pretty close to full-size and they have no problems in the back seat. I've had adults back there, and the only comment has been about how much more room is back there compared to the old QC. The extra-wide opening door helps, and the fold-flat floor is great. I think you will be fine with the quad cab unless your kids are getting ready to play in the NBA or NFL soon. ;) Good luck!

I'm with Ken. Don't hold your breath for a crew cab (sorry xcumminsx). My kids are 13 and 10 and they have lots of room. I've ridden in the back several times and there is 2-3 inches from my knees to the seat backs. Yes, the cab is shorter than a CC, but DC has done an excellent job of making the QC as usefull as possible given the space available. Wouldn't trade it for a Dodge CC even if they did decide to make one.

I went from a 94 reg cab to my 03 quad. I love the extra room in the back, and because I have the power seats, I tend to have them up which helps put them forward a bit too. Seems to be enough room in the back fofr adults. Not sure I would want to do a LONG road trip in the back, but otherwise it's fine.

I wish Dodge would come out with a full crew. Although the Quad is an improvement it still isn't quite big enough for those who want a real crew. Considering more and more people are using pickups for family haulers, and the Japanese are beginning to become competitors in the market, I'd be surprised if Dodge didn't offer a full size crew cab in the near future.

My wife and I are giving them until 2005, otherwise we'll be shopping the competition.

My son is 6'1" with a size 13 shoe and doesn't complain about the back seat. Can get right in and out and the windows roll down all the way. Went cross country with the wife, son, daughter and dog and no one complained.

I've had 6+ footers back there lots of times and they were perfectly comfortable. If you compare you'll find our back seats are bigger than just about any passenger car and the difference between mine and a ferd is inconsequential.

I'm only chiming in in case DC monitors this board ... ... ... ..... after coming from a '99 and kids 17 & 15, this back seat is perfect, and the turning radius is awesome!

I've had up to 4 kids and a dog in the back seat, plus use the fold flat often. 4 adults can comfortably travel in this truck.

Someone mentioned your average sedan? I'd rather ride in the back of this Dodge than in the front of some sedans!

Somedody else mentioned a Ford CC ... ... ... ... have at it buddy, we'll be sure to wave on the way by while your waiting on AAA or looking for an airport to turn around in :D

My personal opinion is that this is the most user friendly and versatile truck built to date!

Ive been in the back of the fords and I believe that there is just TOO much room in the back, its just not necessary. I agree that the QC is much better because you can still maneuver(sp?) the damn thing... I used to drive the fords at my work and they do really suck when trying to make a sharp turn or a u turn. I say stick to the QC.

I agree. Any longer and it would be a PIA to park, etc.

I wonder if the back seats are not as nice to sit in because they are thinner to make space for the folding floor thing. I've sat back there (just for cleaning) and they seem a good bit harder than the fronts.

I'm glad all you folks with kids are happy (and I would expect your children not to complain about 'daddy's new truck - or daddy would tell them to walk!) but there are alot of others that wish Dodge made a full size crew cab so that taking 4 adults on a 500 to 1000 mile trip would be more enjoyable.

I've sat in the back of Ford, Chevy, and Dodge all on the same day (at the Houston Rodeo) and the Ford is most comfortable due to what seemed like about 5 inches of additional leg room than the Dodge. Also, the foot well (or seat height) is deeper on the ford so that your knees are not as high as when sitting in the Dodge.

The Chevy falls in between.

Dodge (DC) if you're listening, you are still losing plenty of sales to Ford and Chevy / GMC for the lack of a full size crew cab truck.

I admit, the 03/04 is a great improvement and almost there - but there is still a market that would buy it.

Hell, offer it in one exterior color (say white), with one interior color(dark gray), in an SLT trim package with the Cummins 600, and the only option would be 6 speed or automatic and I bet you could sell everyone the plant could turn out.

Closer to upgrading but would have pulled the trigger 5 years ago if Dc offered a true crew cab.

I agree there is more room in the Ford but you will be paying alot more money. But you are comparing oranges to apples. There is way more room in the dodge quad-cab compared to the Ford extented cab which are in the same classafication. Not to mention the gamble you would be taking on the new 6. 0. I've always drove Fords my whole life but to me the the new powerstroke or the Duramax doesn't even compare Cummins 5. 9, once you reasearch these engines. The Cummins is the only one out of the three the is considered a med. duty diesel engine by the EPA,better MPG,longer oil interval changes, cheaper filters(oil, fuel, air), more room in eng compartment, no glow plugs, no EGR, better reliabllity, better longevity, there are more plus's I just can't remember all them. The only complaint that I have are the headlights are terrible. Before you buy go to dieselstop.com and read all the problems. Fords are good trucks but the new engine is a risk in my eyes. Good luck
