Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Crosshead question

When I took my head off... 6 months ago... I forgot to look at which way the crossheads under the rockers came off, or I did look and just plain forgot. Does the little bump go towards the front of the truck so you can see it, or does it go back so it's hidden by the rocker? I'm assuming forwards, but I want to make sure before I go any further. TIA

I wondered what those little bumps were for. I put mine towards the front,cause I thought it made sense to be able to see them. So I'll be watching this thread,to get an answer also.

If you look at the holes on the crossheads you will see that the ones on the ends with the bumps are slightly elongated. These go towards the outside.

Thanks Doug. I noticed that they were elongated... that's why I asked which way they should go. I'm lucky I checked, I had 3/4 of them on when I actually looked at one and seen the difference. So the bump goes towards the front so you can see it, well I should be able to fire it up this weekend then and hopefully get a retorque or 2.

I just had the valve cover off the 01. 5 today to adjust the valves... and there are some one way and some the other with no pattern that I can see. I bought the truck new and this was the first time the valve cover has been off! I assume it isn't anything to worry about. The truck has just over 120k on it and no signs of a problem.
