I also did a crossover steering conversion, and this is on a Dana 60 front just like our 1st gens. If anyone is looking to do this mod this is more or less how it'll look.

First off you'll need a drop pitman arm, a high-steer arm, a set of tie rods, and a custom crosslink.

I used a Skyjacker 4" drop pitman arm, pn# DA40:

Ray at Ram Off-Road ((719-650-3044) - -- email address removed --) makes these killer high-steer arms from billet aluminum:

Then I got a big stick of 1-1/2" DOM, 3/16-wall, and made both the steering crosslink and the high-steer crosslink. First I got a double-threaded drag link coupler from NAPA, cut it in half and welded each end into the DOM, and made a bulletproof version for the factory crosslink and high-steer crosslink:

I'm also adding hydraulic ram-assist for the steering, and I'll have pics of that later tomorrow.

This Ramcharger is built to be a bulletproof trail-rated street rig. I'm primarily using it on the street and I wanted a nice street ride quality, which is why I'm using tie rods and polyurethane bushings, and sacrificed some articulation benefits if I had used heims. Personal preferance.

... yeah... I 'been busy... .

Pretty kewl!!! Especially since I asked about this just a few days ago!

For anyone wondering why crossover steering... without it when the axle starts moving around its possible under extremes to have the steering wheel all the way to the right but the wheels pointed straight forward! This is why new 4WD's have it!! The simplicity of our Dodge steering has disadvantages if you're off-road and need 4WD for more than simple traction.

Building a very modified '78 Ramcharger - 452 big block/EFI, 727d/205d, D60 front, D70 rear, 4-link front, 3-link rear, air bags and RS9000's each corner, custom body mods including tilt front clip, snorkle air intake, full custom dash w/ 17 functional gauges, complete on-board air, full custom wiring harness, and lots of armor.

I should say, many of the mods are being done as 'practice' for when I start building my '93 Cummins. Mainly the chassis and suspension will be carried over to the diesel - steering, air bags, and control arms, but there will be custom body mods and electrical upgrades to the diesel as well. So, this RC is my mule, and it's gonna kick pretty hard :-laf .

This is the link the thread on the RCC - it links to page 11 of the buildup, but it's a pretty good read.
