I did the crossover steering on my '98 a few years ago. The truck should have come with it but things were changed before I got it (had been wrecked). I added the upgrade to the mods page of my website. My question is regarding the upper drag link end for '94-'02 trucks. There are different ones. Some say there are different tapers some say they are the same. Some are longer and have the steering shock mount.

Is there anyone out there in this wonderful TDR land who has good and complete information as to what years need what for the upper drag link end at the pitman arm that work with the '98/'99 year crossover steering conversion. The reason I ask is that I would like to have accurate information on my website, which gets quite a bit of traffic. I also get emails now and then asking about this and I'm not sure what to tell people.

As far as I know, the difference is the taper size and the change was made in 2000 to a slightly larger taper shaft for the pitman arm. The factory "crossover" steering draglink TRE is the same for both setups, but you have to request it for a pre-2000 if you have a pre-2000 truck or request it for a 2000+ if that is the year you have, even though you are ordering all the other components for a 98-99 HD truck. Clear as mud right.

Okay so if I'm understanding correctly '94-'97 trucks will use all the '98 parts but 2000+ trucks use all '98 parts except the upper drag link end at the pitman arm in which case a person needs to order for the year truck they have. This is how I understood things to be then I got confused again.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi CP98,

I was wondering if by any chance you would know which upper drag link would fit a 01 2500 to use the setup you have. I would like to switch over to the setup you have down the road. I have looked at my upper drag link and if that is the part I have to order again to run the new setup I don’t think it would fit because it is much longer then the one in your setup. This is all new stuff to me so any help is great.

Thanks

I don't know any more then what's already in this thread. I have not personally worked on any other years than my own so the only way for you to know for sure would be to get both parts maybe and see what works. Just be aware of the possible taper differences. You will have to go with the taper that fits. Sorry I don't have more info. Do some searching on here if you haven't already and see if you can find more info. There have to be some guys with 2000 and up trucks who have done this or at least attempted it.

When I did mine on my 02 I left the joint at the pitman arm alone and just got the new adjusting sleeve as the threads were the same. It wasnt worn so I didnt mess with it.
