GSBROCKMAN, that's great mileage for a 4500. I kept a fuel log on my 09 4500 with 4.44s and once I got almost 14mpg in almost 69K miles. It had a heavy body and 112 gal diesel. Solo, it typically got close to 11 mpg and 8.1 towing. My 5500 seems to be getting 1 mpg better on this trip bringing avg up to 8.0 mpg hand calculated. On the 4500, I only used CC on the flats and tow/haul locked out 6th. We'll see how much better the 5500 gets in fuel mileage, but I'm happy with performance. Ron

haven't you people long ago established that 342's are for fuel mileage because you really want a Prius but wouldn't be caught dead driving one of them, 373's are the best compromise if you can't make up your mind and 410's are only for you if you mean business.. and that using a Fram oil filter will kill your truck? :)

Oh! well we get good mileage.

Actually, what many of us know is that when it comes to moving a heavy load, it's:
good (3.42's),
better (3.73's),
and best (4.10).

It's almost as if Ram knew this too when they rated them for increasing loads as the ratio goes up (numerically). ;)

And as if I had a choice with a SRW, but after towing with 3:42's I wouldn't change anything with the load I tow.

With the Aisin, 65 is when it will shift to 6th with 3.42 gears. RPM would be pretty low for towing. Like 1400-1425 RPM.
I'll be towing my little 14' trailer behind us with the little Lance 855 in the bed. At about 17000lbs total can I use CC and not worry about it, on normal non mountainous roads? It seems to hunt at 70mph over slight rolling hills.Watch the trans temps?

just handle gear hunting aituations like you would have been advised in the old days before smart transmissions and tow haul became the latest greatest. If the trans gets confused as to which gear is best and it starts hunting, ust manually lock out the higher gear. Thats why the OEM still provides that range selector switch on the shift lever

Keep TH and EB on.
