My cruise control will let off for just a 1/4 second and then kick back in. it will sometimes run for an hour perfect then kick in and out several times in a 5 minute period. has anybody had this happen, could it be the buttons on the steering wheel?

Second question, has anybody had there steering improve by installing the T set up over our goofy Y set up. I have read quite a few post on it but nobody comes out to say that it helped the WANDERING :)

I passed a white second gen the other day on the X way, after getting past him I looked in the mirror and watched his truck go back and forth in his lane I just smiled his truck seemed to be as bad as mine :-laf

have you tried tightening/cleaning your TPS sensor?

And what do you mean with kick in and out -> RPM jumps or just kicking out of the cruise speed, so that you have to push the 'resume' button again?

The TPS is new and it was the same with old one

The throttle lets go RPMs drop, it is like you pushed the coast button, then as soon as it lets off it sets it self again and comes back up to speed. It feels like you just take your foot off of the gas pedal then a 1/4 second later push the pedal again in the exact same place, most times it will do this 3 or 4 times in a row then run perfect for the next 20 - 50 miles then start having a fit again.

You're not getting a check rengine light are you? It sounds like potential trouble with the lift pump or VP.

My truck did that one time when my LP began to fail. I took it straight home, parked it, and ordered parts.

Mine does that same thing. The boost gauge reflects this also. I watch the manifold boost press bootstrapping up and down by about 5-7psi. Rpm change is very slight. Speed moves about 2mph up and down. If I'm towing it won't do it.

I think the bootstrapping comes from the mods of fuel plates, injectors and such. It changes the operating system enough that sometimes it isn't sure where it needs to be.

I just hate it when it gets behind and instead of easing into the throttle it hammers in.

I noticied that with the Smarty my truck does that as well. It's ~200 rpm fluxation. I can't really notice in terms of acell/decell other than I hear the turbo whine change pitch.

Could possibly be the switch on the brake pedal. When the brake is depressed the plunger on the switch extends and this triggers the brake lights and disengages the cruise. I think it also controls some other parameters as well.

The truck is a '94. No codes or CEL from a problem like this. No electronic engine control at all. If the brake switch was involved the resume button would have to be pressed to cause it to work again because a hit from the brake light switch will kick it out of cruise.

I would first check to make sure you don't have a damaged vacuum pipe to the cruise control motor that is under the driver's side battery. Battery acid makes holes in the pipe. It may have a very small leak. Your vacuum may not be correct so you should check that. Check to see if your throttle linkage is sticking a little. Lube the end points of the throttle rod. Check the throttle cable coming from the cruise control vacuum motor to see if it is sticking.

If the mechanical stuff is ok and it's still doing it, then clean all the engine grounds. If that doesn't fix it, then clean all connectors involved with the cruise especially the steering column. Your service manual will show the location of the connectors involved.

Thanks Joe for the reply

I am looking into the servo under the bat first if i don't find a problem there I will have to dig into the buttons-switches on the steering wheel. I will however give the grounds a good cleaning that is something i had not thought of. I was hoping someone had the same problem and could save me some trouble shooting can't always be that lucky.

I will let you know what I find

Joe

Mine started to act like that. Not very bad but in certain conditions it would do it. In my case, the ball sockets on the throttle linkage needed a little shot of lube.

I cleaned all the grounds yesterday everything looked ok.

Also pulled the battery box and looked at the servo everything looked ok but I cleaned a little on the plug and put all back together vacuum line checked out as well. I will test drive later today.

I am thinking that if it still happens I will swap out the servo I think if it was the steering wheel buttons I would have to reset before cruise would continue I THINK

Well after inspection and cleaning of the grounds it still is the same, it is however getting worse so if I don't find it soon I will hopefully have a full failure to test for instead of this intermitten problem. I believe the more I think about it that it is probally the servo and I am going to try to change it this weekend.

Joe (I think I am on my account today :-laf )
