Cruise control creeps up in speed

For about the past month or so when I set my cruise for the first, second, or sometimes third time on a warmup cycle it will hold the set speed momentarily and slowly creep up about 5 to 10 mph by itself. It won't accel as hard as it would if I chose the accel button, but it just slowly creeps up from the original set speed. After canceling 2 or 3 times and setting a speed again, everything seems to work OK. I even tried resetting the cruise control adaptive strategy by using the method in the shop manual by setting a speed and canceling it within 10 seconds for 10 consecutive times and it will still creep up on me at times.



Anyone else have a similar experience?

Yes, I have tried the same 10/10 reset procedure. It will work for awhile then start the speed increase again. I had the computer reflashed at my 5* squealer, but that did not help with the problem. I get better mileage not using it anyway. Sorry not much help here. When I do use it I just reset it until it stays put. There are other threads... search & destroy...

My 97 does the same thing and the TDR folks that have had the problem suggest the 10/10 deal and others have had to replace the servo. I just live with it, more money to BOMB with.

My cruise was doing this a while ago. I disconnected the battery cables for a diffrent reason and guess what? My cruise works fine ! Thats been bout `15,000 to 20,000 miles ago. Hey, it won't hurt to try it , right?

I've had the same problem since new. Much less of a problem in the summer. In the cold weather it goes up 10 mph and then settles down to the original setting. Mine always returns to the original setting if I have enough room in front of me and I don't get caught on radar! Does anyone know why this is much more of a problem in the cold weather?

Had the problem--took mine to dealer (finally found good one) and he did two reflashes and mine has been great since--scary, they can sometimes actually fix a problem!! R, J. B.

Dave, if your's has done it since new, I would think the reflash should cure your problem. I had a new PCM put in a year ago, and recently developed the surging problem again. I thought maybe it needed to be "re-flashed". But the dealer said it had the current code on it. They diagnosed a bad servo. Replaced it, $110 later and the cruise holds rock steady.

Appel Motors in Brenham, TX replaced my servo for about $35 buck. It was doing the same thing as GDouglas' rig and then quit altogether. Since the replacement, the CC works flawlessly.

Being a gasser driver, I don' tknow if your servo is the same as mine, but mine was doing the same thing, and also loosing speed at times. The servo cost 63 clams. I don't trust a dealer diagnose and replace it. Oh yeah, the servo fixed the problem.

I don't think they plugged in to the computer (the tech must have seen the problem before). They might gouge pretty deep for a hook up charge to help pay for their equipment.

Worked perfectly to the mph on the way west this summer. On the way home did the 10 mph up / down thing. Just picked up a servo ($71 was in stock) and plan to put it in soon. Too cold right now, no inside area to work.



Will do when warm enough and report.

My mistake. I found the old invoice. I forgot that the problem was the vacuum line to the actuator; the actuator itself was fine. They charged me $35. 00 to put on a piece of 5/32" vacuum hose.

Typical.



I took it to the dealer, because I thought I could still get it done under the engine warranty, but they shot me down on that idea. So I paid them the 35 clams. Cheap lesson.

Another 97 here, doing the same thing. Reflash won't help!/?!?!?!LOL





Tried the 10/10 bit, no help. Going to try unhooking the batteries, can't hurt.





After I do get it set, it surges, ... ... . some times. Go figure.

My 94 and first 97 were dead on.

Just got back from a trip to northwest PA and had the same surge problem when started out. After things warmed up it settled right on down and stayed where set. Did try the 10/10 and it did not help. Will check the hoses to see if some are not connected properly and all that. The reflash and servo replacement sound like good things to try also. Had a '94 and did not have any problems in that truck with the CC. And this is progress?
