I have been searching the boards recently about cruise control issues. Seems to be alot of them. I have the older style setup with vaccum and a speed servo. The cruise light would come on my odometer but cruise would not activate when I hit the set button. It turned out to be the one way check valve as well as the vaccum line under the battery was cracked. Went to napa 5 bucks for a universal check valve. I priced the vaccum harness/hose at the dealer $15 for a cheesy plastic tube that hooks to the servo! forget that. Went to autozone $4 for 4 foot piece of vaccum line. It works perfectly now.

I fixed mine last week, same problem with the vacuum line broken. If it were not for the info shared here on the TDR mine would still be broke!

my servo had a hole corroded in the side of it, jb welded over it and it's been working for the last year and then some

Mine is starting to act up like that too But I don't use it anymore due to extreme hunting due to bigger injectors. I tried the smaller spray can tube inside the vaccuum hose but it did nothing to help the surge or hunting. I will have to try and find info on the reducer needle valve I have read that people have done to control the surging.

Does anyone have info on what type of reducer needle valve was used? Pics of a set up would be helpfull also. :D

I dont think you can solve the surging. When the c. c. speeds up you make boost and then you reach the speed desired it lets off the throttle, boost drops to 0 truck slows down and then cycle repeats. I think it has to with bigger turbos and injectors.

I have read several posts in the past that addressed the surge caused by injectors and turbo and They have fixed it with some sort of restrictive adjustable needle valve assembly. I was hoping someone who has done it would chime in.

Sorry about the hijack question on the thread. Different problem.

remove driver side battery. Check vacuum lines for cracks or splits. Some times battery acid will damage them over time.

there is a black plastic tube that runs from the speed servo under the battery to the vaccum lines against the firewall under the weather strip. Also you will see a black/clear diaphragm connected to the setup in line with the vaccum pump. I used a vaccum tester from auto zone to check the black and clear one way valve. The plastic tube fell apart when I touched it so that was a no brainer.
