Ok, so I've searched the forums and have seen a million posts on cruise control issues and none exactly match mine so I'll ask.

After running by 2003 SO out of fuel last fall, the speed/cruise control stopped working. The light comes on in the dash, but it never engages. I've seen some reference to checking vacuum lines under the battery, then others that say totally electronic in the 2001 and beyonds. I looked in the fuse box and cannot find any that say cruise or speed control.

I'm leaving for Indianapolis with the camper thursday afternoon and the dealer's only diesel mechanic is out of town... . Yes, they have 1 person who knows how to work on Diesel's, so I'm going to have to address this myself. If anyone could mail or post some directions it would be appreciated. I'm on my own on this one and don't generally work on my own cars, so as much detail as possible would be good.

Thanks in advance

my 03 auto has a vac. . pump at the pass. side by the trans. control module and this can go bad If the indicator light comes on the dash you should check that first

I think the '03 and '04 models have, as the previous posted stated, a vacuum pump on the passenger side fender well area. There are several 1/8" hard plastic vacuum lines that run over the back of the engine and down past the fuel filter canister. One of the plastic lines on my truck had rubbed on the top of the filter canister and developed a small vacuum leak which rendered the cruise inop.

If you can hear the vac pump running continuously you may have a leak in one of the lines. Just cut the line at / near the leak and slip a piece of small rubber hose over both ends.
