The cruise control on my truck (see sig) suddenly quit working. I get no cruise light on the dash. I checked the condition of all wiring under the left battery box. It is perfect. I checked the ground there and replace the switch in the steering wheel. I checked the brake switch and clutch switches, both seem good. I think that leaves the clock spring which was replace several years ago on recall or the E. C. M. If anybody has other thoughts I would appreciate it. I have no cruise control codes set although I do have a throttle sensor voltage too high and battery temp sensor voltage too high code set. If it does turn out to be the E. C. M would I be smart to go ahead and get a Smarty instead of just repacing the stock E. C. M? I have placed the cruise control switch in pay it forward for free if anybody can use it. Thanks in advance. Steve.

Hello Steve,

I am having the same sudden fail of speed control you listed, except I do get the cruse light when I hit cruse on. I checked under the battery box, wiring appears to be good. I was reading about the Brake light switch test in the manual. (Auto trans).

I was wondering what you ended up finding.

Thanks JJ

jjohn, when mine was malfunctioning I did not get a cruise control light either. I changed the cruise control switch in the steering wheel to no avail.

Then about a month ago I was taking a trip, tried the cruise just for grins , it worked and still is working. This is twice now that it has failed and fixed itself. I may be nuts but dry and hot seems to fix it while wet and cold seems to cause it. We will see soon. Not much help I'm sure. Did you set any codes like a voltage always too low or too high?

Steve, Actually I "do" get the light when I turn cruse on, it just won't set the speed, or any other function. No codes set. Its Interesting yours fixed itself.

Thanks for the reply.

steve, my cruse control quit and i found that i had a vacuum leak in the vac. line cumming out of the cruse control. i replaced it and that didnt fix it i checked every connection again . then i disconnected the batterys for about 1 hr. that recet the ecm and its fixed . just try this. jim

Mine went out in 02 and it was the vac module (under drivers battery) I think at the time it was $77 @ dealer. About an hour or so to replace in driveway common hand tools. Working fine ever sisnce . . .

The CC on my '98 quit working a year or so ago, and had been dicey for a year before that. I hot-wired the actuator and it works just fine. I tested the switches, and they seem to be within tolerances. Only things left to check are wiring, grounds and PCM.

Resurrecting this old thread as it's the closest thing to my issue. My CC and my stereo controls are not working. I get no light when I try to engage the CC. I'm thinking the clock spring but I'm not throwing any codes and I don't get the "air bag" light staying on which from what I understand is a sign of the clock spring gone south. So how can I determine if the clock spring is no good?
