Well, now that I am trying to ge the rear end situation dealt with on my 04. 5... ... . was driving down the freeway today, and CRUISE CONTROL won't work! It worked fine this morning, but not this afternoon... Light comes on, but won't set speed. Going to the shop MOnday... anyone else have this problem in 04????

Is your truck and automatic or manual transmission? The 03-04 automatic's have an electric vaccum pump to operate the cruise control servo. This pump runs any time the key is in RUN . I don't know where this unit is on a 4. 5 on the 04 is is mounted to the passenger side fender back near the fire wall.

I had the same problem last week on a 500 mile trip.

Truck had 700 miles on it (3 weeks old) and after stopping at a rest stop we were back on I-81 and the cruise would come on but not set!

Arrived at destination, had a two hour meeting, got in truck and cruise worked again. Has been working ever since, as I test it daily ot see if problem re-occurrs.

Let me know what they find as it was a pain driving 120 miles without!! Do not like the dealer service even looking at my truck!!!

Something to check is the brake switch. If there is any play in the switch it will cause the cruise to not set, thinking the brake is applied. If you can get it in this mode you are talking about pull over somewhere safe and out of traffic and check to see if brake lights are on without touching the brake. If on, see if you pull the brake forward (toward the seat) slightly it goes out. Sometimes there is intermittent slop in the switches. Sometimes when messing around in the area of the brake switch like installing a brake controller or something, that switch can get knocked around. This is not the only thing to check but it can be misleading.

Thanks I'll try that. I don't think the brake is on, but might try and pull it out anyway just to see! I went back out tonight and still didn't work after sitting for a couple of hours. THanks!

I had the same problem on my 2nd Gen, TWICE! First time it was a speed control sensor, the second time it was a brake sensor. Both happened out of warranty, ouch!:{ Not too bad though, I think it was a couple hundred $$ each time. I was hoping this wouldn't be a problem with my 3rd Gen. Good Luck.

It was the brake switch!!!! ALl fixed now... They tried to blame it on the trailer hitch I had installed by professionals. THey went ahead and covered it under warranty since the shop that put it on was insured.....
