I dont know if this is a common thing or not as I am a new cummins owner. I have a 1999 quad cab, 5spd, 4x4, 24valve cummins. Since I have owned it (a few weeks now), when I go to set the cruise, sometimes the truck will speed up like 5-10 mph and then set at that speed. Sometimes it sets where I select it to, and other times it speeds up and seems to just keep speeding up until I turn the cruise off (for fear of getting a speeding ticket). Is this an issue with the cruise control module itself or what? Anyone know what is going on here? I have never experienced anything like this before.

These cruise controls have a "learn" ability. I think they store the last 10 or so settings for their memory. There was a post a while back about how to "reset" your cruise control by holding your accelerator steady and turning your cruise control on and off.

I tried that supposed SB fix. My cruise control is so confused now it doesn't know what to do. One time it'll speed up then after 2 or 3 minutes slow back down to the speed you set it at. Then there is the one where it'll plain accelerate until there isn't any throttle cable left to pull. (and your going like a Bat out of HE double toothpicks. ) And then there is this one which, by the way, is my favorite. It'll will hold the speed you set it at... . until you hit a corner, then accelerate. (like HE double toothpicks. ) Just disconnect the negative battery terminals on the batteries and leave them off for about 10 to 30 minutes. This will clear the "memory" on the cruise control. Other than that, I don't know what else it could be. Good luck.

What do you mean by reflash? I have the same cruise control problem where when set it will gain 5 to 10 mph or sometimes keep gaining until I shut it off. It seems after about 15 miles it will lock on and work great until you stop again. Paul

Mine Too.

Hey, mine does the same. In fact I when I was first learning of it's bipolar characteristics I set the cruise at 65 and let it go... well it took off 68. . 70. . 75. . 77... and then flashing red and blue lights. . cost me $130. 00 and about $400. 00 a year in insurance. So if anyone figures out an easy fix other than reflashing. . please let me know. Also, would disconnecting the batteries mess up other functions or not?

My 99 does the same thing, frustrating!! I am headed to the dealer who is afriend of mine tomorrow with copy of TSB 18-08-99 and I will let you know. gtwitch in WY

My CC has a mind of it's own as well. Can anyone tell me what the dealer will charge to fix this? I know the TSB says . 05 hrs but sometimes the dealers have a mind of their own as well.

thx

Just drive down the highway at a steady speed and turn on, set and turn off the cruize in rapid succession... ... 10 times. Then it will work just fine for another year.

Tried that still have a cruise that stinks. Mine when you set it will gain 8-15mph and then once you get it where you want it, it may or may not stay or when ever it wants just increase the speed. The other day I had it at 65mph and about an hour later it just change my speed to 72. I think its just trying to get me a TICKET!!

I did the set and turn off 10 times yesterday. The CC works quite a bit better now. It still speeds up around 2 mph, but that is better than the 10 mph speed up that it did before.
