Cruise Control Not Working

hey all,



my cruise control did not engage last time i went to use it. checked fuses, but everything is okay.



sadly, i am without an owner's manual, so i am relying on the knowledge of others (gotta love this forum )



is there some kind of relay somewhere or anything in particular i should be checking?

Mine would work intermentantly, I thought I had a bad switch in the steering wheel. The switches were fine, but the very thin wires running to the switches finally broke inside the insulation after about 100,000 cycles of the tilt steering. The wires run right under the steering column. I pulled all the plastic off the steering column, and saw the wires, I gently pulled on them and the insulation stretched and broke showing the fatigued wires.



I pulled the wires down out of the column and hooked them to two toggle switches. One for one/off, and one for set. I have alwayed missed resume though. I need to get one on/off switch, and then find a three position momentary switch, for set/resume. I put the switches in the lower part of the dash, kinda like a big truck, cruise switches on the dash. Now I gotta figure out how to make that pesky Jake Brake switch work on the dash. :-laf



Thats the only failure I've had on my cruise. Some guys recommend checking the PCM connections as they get fatigued and don't get good connections. You can unhook the PCM and on the socket tweak them a little with a small pick, so they pinch down on the pins tighter.

Put some electric grease or spray down the throtle positioning sensor. I had a similar problem with cruise and my overdrive kicked out sometimes. It fixed my problem. Hope this helped.

Cruise Control

We found a slight overfill on the drivers side battery caused acid to eat through the plastic part of the servo on the cruise contol on ours. Our servo was located directly under the battery. Maybe that could be your problem as well. Diana.

If you have a 91 to 93 truck. Check the "clock spring" under the steering wheel. It is a spool of wire in a black plastic case. It is computer ribbon wire to be exact ... It brakes inside the case. . Use an ohm meter to check continuity... .

Dodge did call this part a ""clock spring"



Another thing to check is the micro switches in the wheel . . They go bad often. The on/off switch goes the most. Omron made the switchs. They are cheap. Get them at an electronics supply store

Mine will do this every so often. I've checked all the circuits and everything meters out fine. When I put it all back together, the cruise works great. through playing around I've discovered all I have to do is reseat the cannon plug on the servo, and the system will work great.



Don't know if it will help in your situation, but it's worth a shot.

Another thing to check is the brake switch, my switch had to much of the pin sticking out allowing the brake to kick out the cruise. I just the bracket in till the black housing touched the brake arm, now it even works going down the washboard they call our road.

If it turns out to be the clock spring, I repaired mine when my cc quit working. If yours is broke and I can help I would be glad to try.

My clock spring broke about 1 1/2" from the plug that's faces the driver. i cut the 1 1/2" length of ribbon off and cut a bit of the plastic back from the traces and resoldered it to the plug . it's pretty tight soldering but it can be done. cruise works great now. .
