For the last year or so I have had a problem of the cruise control button not working. I press the button and it wont disengage so I have to bunp the brake pedal to cut the cruise. Its not bad when I am running empty but when we are pulling our trailer... bumping the brakes also bumps the trailer brakes. And when the family is sleeping it really wakes them up when they feel the trailer brakes.

I have thought about cutting into the grounding circuit and putting a flip switch so that I can disengage the cruise with out having to touch the brakes. .

Last year I did replace the button panel thinking that it was having issues but now its doing the same thing...

Any thoughts???

mine has started to do the same, very frustrating. As I understand the circuit diagram, the same button is used to turn on and off the cruise control. through a multiplexedi input to the PCM. The PCM is supposed to cycle off to on as the button is initially depressed and then on to off if the button is depressed again, all with the same output signal going to the PCM. I suspect a defect in the control circuit of the PCM, I have tried holding the button down for extended times, same result.

So ... where do we go from here??? This is becoming to be a real pain! The last time I disconnected the batteries for 3 hours... it was fine for awhile. .

At least yours works mine quit working about a year ago and I can't find ant blowed fuses or nothing and I wish I still had it from time to time but I've learned to live with out it so How can I fix that? What switch are yall talking about maby I can replace that and it will work again. Before it quit all together Mine would not bump off unless I hit the break just like yours is doing. Hope yall figuer it out If yall do give me a call Thanks a mill.

At first I thought the switch in the steering wheel was the problem so I ordered one. . It seemed to work fine for awhile... then it started acting up. I use the cruise control everyday to and from work. My concern not only having to bump the brakes to dis-engage it. . but what if it wont disengage with the brake????

In my buddies Peterbilt it has a flip switch for the cruise control so I figured that I would put in an emergency shutoff. If for some reason it didnt shutoff. . I had a way to stop the cruise control...

My 95' has very intermittant cruise problems. Won't work at all for weeks , and I have tried holding down the button for a long time also. Then it starts to work and is ok for several times. I have another bad TPS now , waiting to fix, Seem to be related to that. I put in a manual switch to lock the torq. conv. because I can still drive it by locking it up. I have seen other threads about cruise problems related to vacume problems. Anybody got any solutions. Thanks Larry.

I lost my cruse on way to Muncie. checked with guys there, theyn said vacume line.

sure-nuff... remove driver side battery and box. battery acid had burned the hose,

cut it off, re-installed, and worked great. hope that works

Anyone ever have the cruise engage ok but then accelerate several mph before finally settling back to the original setting? I tried the set/cancel fix several times, but it still won't quite lock and stay steady. Ideas? Charlie.

Rick, just install a momentary contact push button switch in series with the cruise portion of your brake switch. If you get a small enough one it will fit easily in the steering column housing. Just a tap on it will mimic stepping on the brakes without the brakes, truck or trailer being applied.

With this method there is no reason to turn the cruise off and on to resume.
