Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) cruise control problems-95 2500

cruise control stopped working around 120,000 miles. any suggestions where to look for the problem before sending to dealer? I've heard to replace the clock spring?

Do NOT take it to the stealership, much bucks! You should get what you need here. Check hoses to actuator under the drivers side battery. They get eaten up. This is vacuum operated so a vacuum leak will ,do it in. If you lose power at the on/off switch at the wheel it will also go. You need a wire diagram for that . If you don't have someone here will. The clock spring will also do it as sometimes it is too short and pulls wires loose due to strain on the harness. Do a search on this site and you will get a ton of help. Good luck!!

Check the little tiny vacuum hose that runs from underneath the wipers at the firewall, under the left side battery to the cruise control module.

Check under the battery as noted above. If thats not it check the brake lite switch. If it is not adjusted properly,it will kill the cruise as if you were hitting the brakes.

The most likely problem is that battery acid has damaged the vacuum line to the cruise control actuator. If that is not it and you suspect an electrical problem e-mail me and I will send you a scan of the wiring diagram page in the service manual.

I agree that the vacuum line might do it. That was my problem. Disconnect it where it goes into the vacuum manifold just below the friver side winshield wiper and suck on the line. If it won't hold a vacuum check out that line.

If the line is ok and it turns out to be the diaphram in the servo, PM me. I have a spare because I was too dumb to check the line before I bought the new servo.

Also check the cable that goes from next to the throttle cable to the control unit under the battery. The cable is the same style as the recalled throttle cable and frays.
