Tonight while driving on the highway I went to engage the cruise control and it came on for about a second and kicked off.

I went to engage it a second time and it also kicked off.

I could not get it to engage again. The cruise light is illuminated. On two occasions the ABS light and the brake light were lit.

I checked all the obvious such as vacume, connections fuses etc.

Anyone have a clue or experienced this?

Cannonball,
I just had quite a time with my cruise control. I was having about the same problems as you. DC replaced the vacum cannister once at my cost, and the PCM twice at DC's cost. The 3rd time, they figured they better do some more diagnostics. The only thing they could come up with was the brake switch. Replaced that last week, and so far the cruise is working. Long story short, I'd start by replacing the brake switch. Hope this helps.

Randy, did your truck illuminate the ABS and brake light when you experienced this?

No Cannonball, sorry it must have been too early for me this morning - I missed that about the ABS & brake lights. Never had that problem, but that would just make me think even more that your problem is the brake switch. I believe it cost me $13 for the part, so it's cheap enough to try and see if it helps.

Don't be fooled by the fact that your brake lights still work(if they do) because the brake switch has two sets of contacts, one for the brake lights and one for the cruise.
