cruise control quite any suggestions?

a couple of months after I got the truck the cc quit, so I checked the vacuum lines and the wiring to the servo, what else should I check? It sucks not having the cc on the interstate! thanks, Chris.

Lost my cruise just before my throttle cable parted. Cruise couldn't overwhelm the birdsnest in the wire just before it parted. You might check if you have not done so. The new style has a plastic sleeve and you can't see any bare wire. The old one had several inches of bare multistrand wire under the P7100 pump. There is a recall out on the cable #970.

Did you check the vacuum line very near the CC actuator? It's fastened to the bottom of the driver's side battery box. The line is in a little woven sleeve so it may be broken or have a hole in it that you can't see. If you have had a battery leak the acid will make a hole in the line. In order to check it properly you have to take the battery and box out. That's pretty easy. Two of the nuts that fasten the box in must be removed from the under side.

my truck is actually at the dealer as we speak for the recall #970, I could not see any frayed wires, and I also have not been able to find any holes in the vacuum lines, I also replaced the speed sensor on the transmission, is there any way to diagnos the actuator or check to see if power is getting to it from the buttons on the steering wheel?

There are a couple of other things to look at. Fuse 10 is for the cruise control. It's the second fuse from the left in the third row. Your brake light switch has six pins. Pins 5 & 6 are for the cruise control. If there is a problem with them you may have brake lights just fine, but no cruise control. This circuit is normally closed.



Do you have a '95 Dodge service manual?

I have a Haynes manual, and I went thru the process they have for adjusting the brake light switch, and have checked all fuses.

In the Dodge service manual (I DON'T trust the others!!) there is a procedure for checking the brake light switch. Pins 5 & 6 should have continuity when the plunger is NOT pressed. Pressing it should break the circuit. Pin 6 in the connector C214 (the one on the switch) should have continuity to pin 29 of the PCM. Pin 3 of connector C211 (small connector behind the steering wheel) should have 12 volts with the ignition in run position.



As far as the Haynes manual is concerned, the one for my son's Pontiac had so many errors we threw it away.

There is also a vacum system recall on the 96, not sure if it is on 95 but there is aproblem with the oil seal from the PS pump to the vacum pump going bad and getting oil in the vacum system which ruins it. The Recall is #720 I believw and is for 7 years and unlimited miles. They are supposed to replace all vacum components if oil is in system. Check Dave Fritz's web site, it has all the TSB and recall stuff on it (Thanks Dave) and is a wonderful resource for us.

Hey my truck did that with the oil throughout the system at about 25,000 and I have had a vacum leak since in the recir portion of AC that causes me to have no power brakes at idle. Where is Dave Fritz website?

Had cruise problems on my 95. For several months it was intermittent. Finally failed completely. Went to junkyard and obtained a servo unit from a wrecked gasser. Installed it and problem was solved. Cost about $15.

This is from the 94/95 Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures Manual: and it worked for me when my CC quit as all other things checked out OK.

1 Disconnect Brake Switch Connector

2. Key on press S/C "on" switch

3. Probe the S/C On/off Switch Sense for voltage above 10 V

(it's the 3rd from the left with the grooves facing up and the clips towards the bottom)if not ok repair thr open circuit.

4. If OK test the S/C Brake Switch Output for resistance

(disconnect the S/C servo connector and with the clip on the connector facing up it's the 2nd cavity from left, check for Res. w/Brake Switch output. 4th cavity from left w/ grooves facing up, clips down)

5. If resistance is below 5 ohms replace Brake switch, if Ok repair the open S/C Brake Switch circuit.



The wire colors for Brake Switch are:

S/C on/off switch sense YL/RD

Brake Switch output DB/RD

WT/PK= Cav#1

PK/DB=Cav #6

Hope this helps as the Brake Switch is $12. 00 new from dealer so not bad to fix. Ken

Back to the cruise. Mine went out, light would come on but it wouldn't lock on to a speed. Took compressed air and cleaned cc buttons on steering wheel and it worked fine. Had tons of dust and dirt behind controls. Now this is a Monthly maint. item.
