Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Cruise control (stick a fork in, its done)

I got this problem on a 02 auto. Cruise quit working. The horn still works, and there is no ABS ligt on, ruling out a broken clock spring. I checked for codes, and came up with 1597 (Speed control switch always low). Any ideas what to check next? I need to go through the fuses and relays, but I have a feeling the problem is more $$ than that.

Have you checked to make sure your brake lights aren't staying on? I had that happen on my 94.

Nope, brake lights are not staying on.

Does the cruise light come on in the ODO when you turn it on? Sound like it's time to take the airbag off and have a looksee.

Have a look at the clutch switch. I suspect if it was faulty, your truck might start without the clutch pedal being depressed??? Be sure it's in neutral!!!



Also, check that the brake lights operate correctly - on and off.

check the vacume line under the drivers battery, that was what my problem was . Dean

Cruise light on dash comes on with all the other lights when you cycle the key, but after its started, the light doesnt come on when you try to enable the cruise "on " switch. I'll check the vacuum lines and the fuses/relays tomorrow.

Similar prob with mine. Sometimes I can get the dash light on, most of the time not. I have run out of things to try besides dealer.
