2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission cruise control

Why does my cruise contol ALWAYS function properly when set. But sometimes the light in the dash to indicate its on sometimes dosent come on when I activate it. Dont really want to tear the dash apart untill I have a good idea of what might be happening here. Any ideas?
