when going down the hwy, at say 65 mph. , and I come upon a slight hill, and start going down, the cruise wants to hold it at 65 mph setting. If the decline is so slight that it would roll say at 67mph. , the cruise will kick in and out, as it struggles to maintain 65. I don't know how to really explain it. But it is sure irritating. I have to push the go peddle slightly to keep it from bucking. It is otherwise fine for the most part, ie, on the level and climbing.

The cruise is trying to maintain the set speed, even going down hill. It will normally kill the fuel first, then lock the converter, then downshift to hold the speed. It all depends on the grade how far it thinks it needs to go to hold speed.

Sounds like "surging" to me... it almost bucks when coasting down a hill?

If it is, a new FCA or injectors are typically the fix... mine was injectors.

This is what I was getting at. I wish that it would not try to hold my speed from going faster down hill. In a lot of cases, I would not mind if it would get up to 80 mph going down a hill, as long as it would just keep the desired setting on the level or climbing. If the computer could be told to ignore higher speeds and allow for free wheeling:cool:, it would be to my liking. Mine is a manual transmission though, so no converter.

Why not just hit the coast button going downhill and let it roll, and when the speed you have attained starts to drop hit the resume button and when it gets down to the set speed it will hold there.

If the cruise is working properly, IT WILL NOT BUCK.

Start looking at the FCA or injectors (leaking)... I was already down this road, so I speak from experience.

I think you may be right. With 245,000 mileson it, the injectors may be weak, or leaking. I have lost about 2 mpg over the last couple of years, so maybe this is just another indicator. BTW, what is an FCA ?

If you've got a clear road ahead, put it in neutral & let it roll.

That's what I did when I drove a manual.
