I can't seem to get my cruise control to work (2002 Dodge Ram 2500-Diesel-4x4). I have vacuum at all locations I just can't to seem to get the cruise to kick in. Is there a fuse somewhere that I'm not finding which runs the cruise control or any other ideas? Help!

I had to remove the steering wheel cruise switches and clean the contacts with contact cleaner. All has worked from then on.

From what I've read on this site, the vacuum to the actuator (hole in the line), the actuator, the breaklight switch adjustment, and the switch contacts are most common failure points. I have a '95, and there is a fuse in the panel, and a relay in the PCM under the hood.

i am having the same problem but i tried engaging the ebreak just enough so the light would come on and the cruise worked. his is a 96 so i would try the switch contacts.

check wires in column

CC on my 01 (and probably your 02) is electronic, not vacuum controlled. My CC quit after the little wires in the tilt steering column broke. Tilting the column in cold weather took its toll, besides the factory did a poor job protecting those little wires from the get go. I spliced the wires nicely, protected them with some foam, making sure they would be ok as the steering is tilted up and down. To access them, just pull the plastic covers off from around the steeiring column. Eliminate the easy possibilities first. Worst case, I suppose the Dealer might have to scan the computer to trace the problem (I'm not sure on this). Good Luck!

Interesting on mine it is vacuum. I had an instance where the vacuum line for it ran above the fuel filter and when replacing the fuel filter pulled it loose under that battery (driver side) reconnected and it started working again.

Bob-that is interesting. Mine is also the 6spd HO version. If I remember correctly, the factory service manual explained the electronic cc to me. At first, I was hunting around for the vacuum controls under the battery box after searching this forum. I wonder why the diff?

Honest I have no clue!! You suppose it could be because mine is an early production truck rather than later in the year. Like mine has rear brake shoes instead of discs. I would not think so but little plastic vacuum tube was my problem?

Then I am really at a lose!!!! I can only tell ya it is a hard black plastic tube not much bigger than spaghetti that ran above the fuel filter and under the battey try on the left side. I am currently in Ca. and soon as I get back to Az. and get the chance will look at it again.

What were ya'lls symptoms? Mine is a 99 4x4 auto 2500. The cruise light will come on sometimes but as soon as I press the set light it goes off and will not come back on. Most of the time it (cruise light) will not come on at all.

I thought all the 02 were electronic! My 01. 5 is vacuum. Do you tilt the steering wheel a lot?

SNOKING

The manual trucks are electronic, the autos are vacuum (so the APPS still rotates to provide throttle position information to the PCM for proper 3-4 shifting)

That is weird regarding which units are electric and which are vacuum. I have an early 01. 5 (built 11/00) with rear disks and it is electronic. A friend of mine had an 01. 5 that was built in 6/01, but his was vacuum.

I payed extra to have final assembly in St. Louis, maybe that is the difference?
