i have a 92 w-250 4x4 and the cruise control has stopped working , it is steering wheel mounted controls and if i leave the switch in the on position it will sometimes engage automaticly without setting it but must of the time{ 99%} it doesn't work , where should i start trouble shooting ?i am addicted to cruise on the h-way.

Just a thought but I would probably start in the wheel with the switches. They look easy to remove and checking them for contact and continuity(sp?) should be easy. While I was there I would check under the wheel, there should be some sort of ring, similar to the horn ring I would think, where the contact is made so you can turn the wheel. I used to have a horn that honked at a certain spot in the rotation, drove me crazy until I replaced the plunger.

I had problems with mine and was the swithes in the steering wheel. You can get a wireing harness with both switches at the dealer for qbout $35. That fixed mine

I don't know if the 92's are the same as the 93's, but I have trouble with my cruise all the time and it's the brake light switch that causes my problems. The switch pushes into a bracket and if I hit the pedal on the way out of the truck it will sometimes push the switch up. When this happens the cruise will not engage or will engage and increase speed. I just push the switch back into position and all is well for a while. Started doing this when I changed the booster and master cylinder so I guess its slightly out of adjustment. One of these days I'll get around to fixing it. :)

Just a thought, my cruise will act and react to my tilting of the wheel, this leads me to believe the wiring harness on the column to the switches is in need of replacement-another saturday project that gets set aside...

Have checked your problem in the service manual, says one of two things: faulty electrical circuit or defective servo. Would suggest that you obtain a service manual as there is conciderable information about the cruise control system. I would think the first place to look is the wiring between the steering wheel mounted switches and the control unit. Behind the steering wheel is flat ribbon type cable that connects the steering wheel to the column it's refered to as a "clockspring" in the service manual, have a look and see if it is damaged.

If this does not help, send me an email.

TPS?

With the 93, the previous owner had the Throttle position sensor replaced after the cruise quit working. That was the day before I bought it, so I don't know how easy/difficult it is to service. Part was about $100 Cdn I think. Its worth checking out.

thanks guys for all the help but rechecked switches today and the set switch is not working , called local dodge dealer and they wanted $ 61. 50 for switch harness can this be found cheaper?
