Having a problem with my truck for almost a year when the cruise is on. Every once in awhile it just floors itself - pedel to the metal- with the cruise engaged or disingaged. Does not happen when the cruise is turned off. Took it to the dealer once and he said if they couldn't reproduce the problem there was nothing they could do. The chances of it showing up where slim so I didn't leave it. Could anyone tell me what sensors or chips contol the cruise or what to look for. Thanks.

Inspect the wiring above the dipstick tube. I've seen where a couple of wires rub on the dipstick tube then short together. Cycle the ignition key off to on 3 times and see if any trouble codes display in the odometer window.

Do you simply take it out of cruise control to stop the truck from accelerating?

There was a tread on engine run away, but that probably doesn’t pertain to you. Does your speedometer or ABS act up? Check out some of the following links. They may give you some ideas.

Have checked for codes in the CPU, none there. The run away will disengage when either the brake is tapped or with the off button. Found that out a couple of times when passing through a small town forgetting to turn cruise off, 25mph, bumper to bumper traffic and quite a feeling when the peddle moves away from your foot and you're 10ft from the car in front.  Those four wheel disc brakes sure are nice. :D

Think I will try another dealer and see if they will give me the reflash. If they won't then I'll have to give them this old line I heard awhile back- "I need your full name and that of your manager"-- What for?--"So my wifes lawyer knows who to call when I'm killed in that wreak!":D :D

My 99QC did the same thing right out of the box. After it was completley warmed up it seemed to do it less. I had no trouble with my stealer but they did not know how to fix it. Tech would replace servo unit and recalibrate main ECM and it would be alright for about 5k and then start right up again. After two new servo units I just dealt with it. Finally while pulling my 4k lb. travel trailer uphill at 58k my lift pump took a half a crap and I limped into Quincy Ca. (Willets Motors) while going through the lift pump wait I explained all my cruise control problems to the tech and he started laughing and said he could fix it without any new parts and did so. As he explained it to me their are two (2) ecm's in our trucks and they have to be calibrated together. Anyway that was at 58k and I am now at 120k with no cruise control problems. (knock on wood) so tell your dealer he is full of *%^)& and get it fixed!!!!!!also after two week wait got lift pump replaced under warranty but carry spare under seat like a lot of Dodge pickup owners... ... . Hope Ive helped. . Steve in northern Ca.

I had the exact same prob. with my '99. Lakeville dodge (lakeville, MN (terrible dealer)) said nothing wrong. Winona Chrsler told me I have to reprogram it by cancel, off , on, set, etc. Sometimes 10 times in a row. It seemed to work after a while. Now and then I still have problems with it though
