I've been trying to add factory cruise to my truck and keep hearing that you can't get cruise on a manual truck? Was told this both by the dealer and a place that sells the OEM cruise kit. Doesn't sound right.

cditrani, I think you are right, something is wrong with that picture. To be honest with you most of my friends have bought 6 speeds since I got mine all of them have cruise, I also have a couple of friends with 5 speeds they also have cruise. Maybe you need to check back with them. Gunny

They are full of iky brown stuff!!!

I have yet to see a 5 speed, 6 speed or auto that didnt have factory cruise control! Jim

Sounds like they got remote start confused with cruise. Only the most striped down models come without cruise, manual or auto.

My 5 speed has cruise.

I also own a Ford Taurus SHO 5 speed w/cruise.

I have driven a few International trucks with cruise. One of which had a 9 speed, Eaton Fuller I think. They also had a nice feature that allowed you to set the idle up with the cruise.

I have also looked into add on electronic cruise control for motorcycles. It is available for most any make or model.

Used to install factory cruise on Mopars when I was at the dealership. The only difference I recall was a clutch pedal cut-out.

Even the big guys (Class 7-9) have cruise control with their manual transmissions.

Here is the order code for a new RAM from http://www.kbb.com:

AJK

Convenience Group 343. 00 390. 0

(Std. w/QOP-2*G) Includes Speed Control & Tilt Steering Wheel.

I would strongly urge you to check out www.kbb.com. I typically go in and talk with the fleet mgr and structure a deal like $100-250 over invoice. When I got my '98 the wholesale prices were right on the penny.

I have even read about people getting for under the invoice. When times are good, dealer meeting their quota get an additional 3% back from DC at the end of the quarter. Some web searching can save you a bunch.

I hope this helps. :) Best of luck getting your new ride!

MMMMM,,No cruise??????,,News to me,,I even have it on my 9200 series International Condo I drive at work with my N-14 R-F super-10,,I'd be lost without cruise,it would be like the time my wife hide all my remotes,,Although she constantly accuses me of not needing the cruise on my rattlebox, because as she claims" it only has two speeds idle and wide open",,Guess its a woman thing cause I did not see the humor at all... ...

Stripped down.

That's mine. A purely functional beast. I got all the HD options but forewent the niceties (except AC). This truck begs for cruise though as it'll hold 75mph up hill in 6th with my race trailer in tow, and I do a lot of driving at night when the roads are empty.

I've posted this before, but if anyone has added OEM cruise to a current model HO/6spd (the all-electronic cruise) and can share the details, I'd much appreciate it.

Hey CD-I betcha getting cruise onto your truck would be a simple matter of changing the wheel (or maybe just adding the switches-they are available separately although they ain't cheap) and maybe a software flash. Like you said, the newer trucks with manuals are servoless cruise-the computer takes care of the throttle for you. There is no clutch switch on the new trucks either-if the RPM jumps a predetermined amount while road speed stays the same the cruise is kicked out. Mine came from the factory with this provision unflashed-according to the dealer tech the PCM didn't "know" the truck had cruise..... but it worked just fine except for the runaway RPM deal if you stabbed the clutch!

So does your wheel have blockout plates installed now where the cruise switches should go? Never looked at a newer one without cruise..... if so I'm thinking that you could get the switches either new from Chrysler or from a wreckers with newer stuff-should be the same from '98 up I would guess-and retrofit them. Worth a try anyways... .....

Crusie with a manual

I think they are on some really bad drugs or forgot to read the sales brochure:rolleyes:

BTW - Mine is a 5sp and cruise ordered in 98 as a 99.

I added the cruise control to my ('94 5sp. ) truck. Went to the dealer and got the parts kit for about $100

cruise runaway

Mine came from the factory with this provision unflashed-according to the dealer tech the PCM didn't "know" the truck had cruise..... but it worked just fine except for the runaway RPM deal if you stabbed the clutch!

J hanson wrote above. Is the cruise run a way normal?? my truck does this sometimes, but not all the time. If when that happenes the rpms go till I shut the cruise off help please!

Hey Eric-does yours just run away out of the blue? The only reason I found out about mine was a combination of factors-first being that as a OTR truck driver you get used to tapping the clutch pedal to disengage the cruise instead of the brake pedal like you would in a normal vehicle, and second that the stupid clutch in these trucks disengages right at the top of the pedal travel instead of further down like a real vehicle should (can you tell that this is one of the few things that irk me about my truck? :D ). Combine the 2 and you'd get a pretty big RPM jump... . I never held the pedal down to see how long it would run up there... . and to tell the truth I haven't tried it since they reflashed it to see if it works right now! Would have been a ton easier if they'd have wired in a clutch switch the way it used to be-but that might have cost DC an extra 47 cents... .
