I'll keep this short. This past winter my '02 cruise when I'd switch it on would not work. However after continually activating the on switch it would finally do so.

Short time later it just stopped coming on at all. My warranty is about up and I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to get it to the dealer in time. Anyone know where I should start looking for the problem. I've done a search but haven't found anything specific.

Don' treally need it for going to work and hauling my equipment around but it would be nice to have when I go visit my folks and for vacations.

On my 97' when it stopped working I discovered it was a vacuum line I inavertantly loosened when replacing the fuel filter from above the engine compartment. So if you replaced your filter lately you might want to check that first.

I'm surprised your search didn't bring up the billows under the drivers side battery. Check it and the line going to it for holes from battery acid. You will have to remove the battery and tray to get a good look at it.

On mine the bellows/curise control module went south. First it started creeping up and then eventually when you set it, it would take off and continue accelerating "forever" until you turned it off. It's been over a year but, I think it cost me about $70, the dealer had it instock and it's about a 2 - 3 beer job depending on how hot it is, how big the beer container etc. etc. (about an hour or so).

Get that thing to the dealer and let them do it. Call ahead and make sure they have the part so you can wait for it.

Good luck.

Mine has done the same thing a couple of times now, but hitting the brake pedal seems to "reset" it. I'm wondering if my stop light switch might be sticking.

I think the 2002 cruise control you mention is entirely done within the PCM/ECM system - it's all electronic with no vacuum lines, cables, actuators, etc. If the PCM calls for more speed, the ECM responds with more fuel. Since the problem is internal to the electronics or associated switches (engage/disengage/brake light) and sensors, if I were still within warranty, I'd let the dealer sweat it.

JM2CW  ;)

Thanks fellas for the help. If dealer is unable to get to it before the warranty goes out at least I've got this to refer to.

Thanks again.

Thought I'd update this. The dealer said it was nothing more than a broken wire in the controls in the steering wheel, they soldered it and that was that.
