That's cool.
The turbo story...
My son bought a "demo" '05 with 17 k on it... from a Ford dealer. He diodn't like the performance, so we asked around and we put in a TST powermax.
I installed the thermocouple for the pyro. I start the truck, idle for about 10 seconds and shut it down.
For the test run, he jumps in with a cumputer geek buddy, fires up, backs into the street and pulls a hole shot. Down the street and back. He leaves it running and says "I'm not impressed you try it".
So I do, not really leaning on it but his buddy was cranking up the boost limiter as I was driving... we hit something like 38 psi that I saw. No biggie, egt maybe 1250 for an instant, but his buddy says "what's that whining sound?" I thought it was finally some turbo whine, but it got worse by the next light.
Limp back and the turbo is toasted. . hitting the compressor housing.
Gets it towed to Modern Motors for a warantee replacement. They say "whoever drilled the hole got chips in the compressor housing... no warantee.
He told me that and I explained that was an impossibility. Second attempt the dealer said "well then chips welded themselves to the turbine and threw it out of balance. Yes, that's what happened". Again I explianed that was another impossibility.
So they get the truck towed back to Torrington.
He then finds out they never took the turbo off to inspect it.
So he does, returns it, shows there is none of the nonsense they claimed, and gets a new turbo.
In the mean time, when MM had his truck towed back, they let the guy tow it backkwards... . his hard tonneau cover came off and is lost, and does $2 K in damage to the cab back in the process.
Bottom line... Modern Motors, well, never mind. I would never trust them.
All is now fine.
