I see the CTD has a recommended rebuild at 350K miles.

Does that mean the CTD should go at least 350K without needing to be rebuilt, or does that mean 350K is the max you should expect?

Just wondering how many years of service I should be able to get out of this thing. :)

There were some owners in TDR publication that are in the RV transporting bus. that have over a million on the original block. The motor is solid and with the right care it should last way past that. With the price of the new ones I think I will find out if it will.

I think with even typical maintaince, you should be able to go 500k there was a truck in one TDR mag with 1. 2 million miles on the orginal motor

That 350K figure is pretty much an average across the engine type, not the expected maximum they are likely to deliver.

Treat it with reasonable care and respect, and 500K+ should be no big sweat - but let's face it, the vast majority will trade it off LONG before its really even well broken in - so they might as well have bought that Ford or Duramax... ;) :D

Yea... ..... You know its a shame about the rest of the truck... ... ... I'm sure the engine, trans, and rear will easily make it to that mark... ... .

But the rest of the truck???? I dont think so... ... . I can just imagine the list of things that are going to go wrong. Especially in the suspension (IE: the front end).

Not complaining... ... ... I'm keeping mine and looking for a 12 valver to boot. ;)

Opinions are like "rear ends" (you know what I mean?) everybody's got one. :D

392,000 plus miles so far, still running better than new, change oil 10,000 miles, don't have to add between changes. Get 16-17 mpg around the house and 18-20 mpg on the road running empty. Would not buy anything else that tries to duplicate the Dodge Cummins Diesel Pickup. But, I am watching Toyota!!!!!!!!!

No, can't afford it anyway.

I looked at a '90 D350 dually w/ an auto trans that had 422,000 miles on it.

I don't know any thing about what work may have been done, I never talked to the owner, the body was beat to death. he wanted $1000 for it, drove by today and its gone. The mileage was probably original by how the truck looked, and I know it sat in the yard for 4 or 5 years.

328k on my 'ol 97. Runs pretty good. Usually don't have to add any oil change it every 10k and making a little over 400 ponies and almost 1100ft. /lbs of torque. But that could go up next time I make a visit to Mooresville, Indiana. :D

I had 200k on my 99 and had zero trouble with the engine (other than the blasted LP)... I could see getting well over 350k out of one. My dad currently has 220k on his, the only thing we had to do (other than LP) is fan clutch and oil pressure sending unit.

I have 50k on my 04. 5... figure in about 3 years I'll be pushing around 250K. I think the downfall to the 3rd gens will be the electronic control units.

Well folks I have 456,000+ on my 98 quad cab. Had more manual transmission problems than anything else. Change oil and filter every 7000 mi. Engine is strong. The rest of the drivetrain I'm not so sure about!

I know of one '93 that's got about 450K on the odo. Hasn't ran much the last four years as it is all beat to hell. Hauled livestock commercially from new until '01 when it was more or less retired with 430+K on it. Motor is all original and runs perfect. Rest of truck ain't so perdy.

Another ('94) lost its timing cover bolts somewhere under 200K. Does that count as a blown engine or not?? What a mess!!!!!

Drive it nice and take care of it and it should go 350K+. Which means I should start looking to trade around 225K...

I have a truck in the shop now 275k,1 injection pump,3 lift pumps and 1 injector,2 clutches so far. 03 ho hauls 4 cars at a time since new. No oil between 10k oil changes . Still running strong

I know a guy back home with a 3500 that buy's steel plates and angle iron and what not in El Paso, TX and Drives it 250 miles or so one way to Silver City, NM and sells it. He loads the **** out of this truck and he's got 400,000 miles on it. I do mean Loads it too... . Watch out, "DOT"!!!!

Our superintendant at work put 290K on his 2nd gen before getting tired of it and trading it in on a 2004 CTD. The only thing he ever replaced was tires/ shocks/ brakes.

Michael

This really does not relate to CTD, just engines in general. I own a courier co. and we use gasers and get 300k before we replace them. Our first van is still owned by a family member, a 93 ASTRO 4. 3 and it has over 500K and never had a bolt turned on the engine.

My father-in-law has ~330K on his '95 & has just had his first minor engine work done... lift pump & some minor inj. pump work. Still has the original injectors even & they test out beautiful. Otherwise its just been A/C compressor, shocks, tires, brakes & the like. It runs better now than it ever has & should continue to run another 200K.

My dad has 250k+ on his '94 Ford Aspire. Still runs like new. It is just starting to show a little rust. Was Ziebarted within a week of buying it new.

Almost 202k on my Ram. :D Still doesn't use any oil.
