I have over 130,000 miles on the truck and it still chirps when I shut it off. I think the chirp is not as big as it once was. Do ALL of our diesel trucks make the noise?

They all will eventually. Go to auto zone a get a gator back belt, its cheap, lifetime warranty and it will never squeek again ;) .

I don't mind ther chirp, fact I like it but I think it is getting less noticable. Hope my engine is OK.

Good link!!

The chirp is from the belt, some do it, some don't, mine didn't before I changed the belt. I put a new Goodyear gator-back on it and now it chirps...

This is the explanation that I have read before (don’t know how true it is but it makes sense to me)... when a diesel motor is turned off it comes to and instant stop, sometimes even rotates backwards to a “neutral” spot…the rest of the stuff is still spinning when the crank pulley instantly stops, causing a slight slip of the belt making the noise you hear…

Just use the line I like to use when someone asks you why your truck “chirps” when you shut it off…

Turn to them with a big smile on your face and say…. . ”Oh, that’s just 600 foot pounds of torque coming to an instant halt”…. :-laf :-laf
