Has anyone used their Costco membership to buy their CTD? Can you tell me about it? Good experience, bad? Price less than shopping and negotiating hard? Thx for the help.

I bought mine in '99 through Costco. They generally work throught the fleet sales dept of a single dealer in an area. There is no negotiation. The price I was quoted was $800 over the then current invoice, which was good at the time. It was a good experience. You ask Costco which dealer to contact and they give you a price. No muss, fuss, or bother.

minor interest here as I'm a retired Costco Mgr.....

this a great program , especially for the person who either hates the game or is intimidated by the expierence / price confrontation games... you can beat the price if you do internet shop and have time [but only by a small amount]... overall the price is negociated in advance as to the total profit % a dealer can make and they check out the dealers as to the sales contracts [after the fact] in the home office to make sure the dealers are being honest with their agreement to Costco. . if not they are bounced from the program !

the reason they can get better prices are the Costco members are the cream of the crop credit wise and they have track record of such across the board... . so if a member goes to a dealer they know in advance that they have a great potiental customer with no credit problems... and also the Costco member is in the upper 10% of the income earners and tends to buy upscale cars v/s stripped ones, making more profit potential for the dealer. . so it a win win for the dealer...

and what does Costco get out of this ... easy a more loyal member because they see, and have value in their membership.

oh. . one piece of advise... look at the dealer yourself... they the Costco headquarters have on occasion not used dealers that we the TDR members are all excited about. . so might be something to watch as to the warranty services. .

he has changed dealers on my recommendation in the past because of local knowledge.

PS . . I know the guy who administers this program and he works very hard to be helpful here. . and looks into member complaints with great interest in resolve... he has also been the source of some of the info I have posted in the past as he ran the tire centers for Costco for a long while in his previous job title.

AS ALWAYS ITS BUYER BEWARE... do not sign the dotted line if you are not 100% comfortable and do fill out the member servey after the expierence. . good or bad. . it helps them know weather the dealers are doing a good or bad job. . my friend will contact every negative comment member. !

costco purchase

Costco was a fantastic way to buy a vehicle in Las Vegas. This town is such a ripoff for cars that a lot of people go to Utah or Idaho to buy. In late 2000 I was looking for a used CTD but no one would let go so I looked out of state. I tried CA, UT, AZ and found some possibilities, but my trade in was the problem. I had a very nice baby Blazer that booked at 6k but everyone only offered 3k or less. A local STEALER (4 page letter to DC on that @#@$%@) actually tried to steal my trade in the paperwork. So I called Costco and got referred to their local Dodge dealer. I made the appointment for the next morning and explained to them that I was going to Salt Lake that afternoon to buy up there. Long story short(er) I bought my truck that morning, it took only 1 hour including the test drive. The Costco dealer gave me 6k for my trade no questions asked, the lot price on my truck was 38k but the Costco price was just over 33k. Their markup was $800 as quoted, and to make the deal work for me they even lowered that to $200.

Net answer, I would not hesitate to do it again. The dealers make so much business off Costco members that they will not do anything to screw it up. Costco checks to see if you were happy and if not (I was), the dealer hears about it. Go for it.

Still stock 01 HO 6spd.

I'm another happy COSTCO shopper. Bought my 2001. 5 at $200 over invoice just like promised. No BS, no games. Dealt with the Fleet salesman and would do it again in a minute.

Try checking with TDR member tomeygun with Lou Fusz Dodge in Kirkwood, MO. He was offering members 2% below dealer invoice a couple months ago. Don't know if that offer is still good. DC gives the dealers a 3% dealer holdback, so basically they would make 1% profit on that deal. A dealer selling at dealer invoice makes 3% profit on the sale.

The Denver dealers are insane. I bought mine at a big dealer in west Ia. . $54 over invoice was the price they gave me by fax - no dickering at all. I could have done better yet if I would have checked out another small town. Craig
