CTDs to Alaska

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Does anybody need a good used Dometic refrigerator?

Need someone to tow car!!! ASAP!!!

This is the bridge that crosses the Yukon River in Yukon Crossing. The pickup in front of me is Alyeska Security. The oil pipline is under the driving section of the bridge and is considered a terrorist target. If you stop on the bridge, lights will flash and speakers will blare.

"The Pipeline" The radiators are to keep the warm oil from heating the pillars that then melt the permafrost. If the permafrost should melt, the stability of the pipeline would be in question.

I will post others as I can.

trip to alaska

My wife and I are pcs'ing to Eilsen in Fairbanks this summer. We were thinking of leaving July 15, due to report date. We will be pulling a horse trailer with two horses, but would love to tag along with you guys as much as possible. We are limited on travel miles per day, and stops due to the horses, but any company, help would be awesome. It would be great if we could get lucky enough to join up with you guys.

Travis

sounds good. I will have more solid dates in the next few days.

Make sure you contact both US and Candian customs on the horses. They are both good to work with as long as you have all the paperwork in order.

Marty and others interested:

I'm glad to see some fellow TDR members are expressing interest in making this trip. This could turn out to be very interesting and lots of fun.

Great pictures Mbarlow!

It's great to see a lot of interest in this trip. If we have even 6 or 7 rigs it would be a real fun drive.

As soon as you get some dates let us know. There's a chance I'll have to drive to Sacramento in mid July for a soccer tournament so hopefully that won't affect the timing of budget too badly.

Where I am going in California is 100 miles north of Sacramento (Paradise).

Does anyone have a flatbed dual axle car hauler. The reason I am going down is to see family and bring up a 65 Ford Pickup that I am going to build into a hot rod for my wife (this is of course after I finish my 46 willys cj2a). I am either looking to buy one at a reasonable price or borrow it and somebody could bring it back down for me.

I will post more pictures tomorrow of the Haul Road trip. That moose DBF, is scrawny. Was that last year? We had pretty mild winters the last 3. I have taken the Cassiar Highway many times and actually prefer it unless I am pulling a trailer. Kiniskan and Mezadin lakes have great provincial park campgrounds. They both also have some good fishing if you have a boat or canoe. I see lots of black bears along the highway. I have also seen a lynx with three kittens, moose and other critters. There is an RV park in Stewart which is a few miles off the main course. From Stewart, you can also drive into Hyder which is in Alaksa. A few other rv parks can be found along the way but they are pretty undeveloped.

The valley where the community of Coldfoot is. Coldfoot got its name, so they say, when several miners turned around here because they got "cold feet". This is a very beautiful area in the Brooks Range. I wouldn't mind living here if I didn't have to work. Lots of wildlife.

The Brooks range, getting ready to climb into Atigun Pass. The Brooks Range are an extension of the Rocky Mountains. They are still very wild and mostly untouched.

Marty,

Beautiful scenery and excellent photography.

I own a flat bed tandem trailer and you would be welcome to use it but I don't know any way to get it to you and back since I have to pull my TT for the trip.

Harvey

thanks on the trailer offer... ... I could go out and get it. . the trick is getting it back. I am going to check into a uhaul unit. I hate the surge brakes on those things though.

Also... a couple things I forgot to include on the list of items to bring up.

Mosquito repellent... the good stuff. Should have a least 75% deet. Don't waste money on the other stuff, the mosquitos think it is seasoning.

Head net

A couple gallons window washing fluid.

A radiator bug screen is nice too.

I would highly recommend making a stop in little old Atlin, B. C. It is the turn-off at Jakes Corner, about 50 miles before Whitehorse, Yukon on the Alaska Highway. This is a beautiful little old gold mining town that I lived in for awhile as a kid and have been back to visit a few times. My mother and grandmother still live there, along with a couple uncles. Just do a search on the internet for Atlin and you will get lots of hits, this will give you an idea of what the place is like. Here is the link to the Atlin homepage. I can't wait to make a trip up there in the CTD, but I think it will have to wait until next summer. :(

Marty,

I added the additional items to my "Alaska Trip Checklist. "

Head net??????? You mean like a net to cover my head for sleeping? Hmmmmm... ... . what about my bald head? A net won't protect it will it? Maybe the repellent will keep the mosquitos from feasting on it.

I added the website for the town you recommended to my "favorites" list. When the time comes to plan the journey I'll review and see if I can fit it in.
