Here I am

CTDs to Alaska

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Does anybody need a good used Dometic refrigerator?

Need someone to tow car!!! ASAP!!!

I have arranged for this guy to teach you some Native Olympics. Pictures of all of us doing this should make the cover of TDR magazine right?

:--) :D

Native Olympics

We saw some of these events at UAF last trip.

Those young folks are in *great* shape, physically and mentally.

Arctic Ocean?

Marty, JR2,WD et al

I've had a hankering to dip my digits in the Arctic Ocean and take a picture of it.

With all the added security in the area, is getting there still possible? Any guides or off duty security people willing to accompany us to visit the bay?

Who controls security? Feds, State, private agencies? Is it possible to get prior clearance and permission for such a visit?

Please advise.

I'd hate to be so close and miss out on it.

Thanks

Les

Security has really been tightened up. You can not drive to the Arctic Ocean. This is nothing new. You drive into Deadhorse and that is as far as you go. However, previously, there were tours onto the oilfields. There were discussions on curtailing this due to new security concerns. I will make some calls to see what the status of this is.

Watson Lake

Our next day will bring us into Watson Lake, home of the famous Sign Forest. For more information on Watson Lake, visit the link below:

http://www.yukoninfo.com/watson/

This will be about a 150 mile drive. After some time looking around Watson Lake, we will continue north to the Teslin Lake area. Total driving for the day will be around 300 miles. There is a provincial park in Teslin as well as other places to park. RV parks in the Yukon are usually very reasonable. There are also rest areas and wide pull outs. We can just play it by ear. Below is some information about the Teslin area.

Its gettting closer!!

Arctic Ocean

OK Marty.

Use your influence! Bet you can get us there.

BTW I found some bug spray at the local Army-Navy Store called

Ben's 100 Max formula. This is 95% DEET and will not only stain your watch crystal, it will make you do hand stands like you pictured. Costs $6. 99 for 1. 25 fl. oz. (www.tendercorp.com)

More beautiful scenery!

Are travelers permitted to park overnight in the turnouts? I've seen them mentioned somewhere, maybe the MilePost.

Brutus:

I checked the website you provided. According to the website, Ben's products are also available at Wal-Mart, Eckerds, Walgreen, etc. I guess I better stock up.

They don't bother you for parking in pull outs as long as you are not setting up camp ie: tents, campfire and the like. If you are just parking to "take a nap", you should be fine.

There are several companies that make the high cetane bug juice; Ben's is available at Walmart. Muskol is another popular brand. Didn't know if would help you in the high kick though.

As far as influence up north... have none. I am working on it though.

Tour

May have found something here. Click on "tours"

www. Arcticcarribouinn.com

I've sent them an Email to confirm that they offer this service.

Les

This is also where I am checking. They don't actually do the tours but act as an agent for Princess and others. I still haven't heard back on the security issues.

And then...

Yet more advice for another source:

"Aside from that, be sure to ship to Kodiak Island from Homer. Fantastic place and the most beautiful we saw in AK. Incredible fishing!!"

This sounds good to me also. What do you think Marty?

After our little group disbands, I'm thinking:

-Prudhoe Bay if feasible to visit the ocean

-Denali Hwy (8) and National Park

-Kodiak Island

Anyone is welcome to join.

Any other >gotta see<places we should'nt miss while there?

Les

So when do you guys/gals think you will be passing through Delta to Fairbanks or thereabouts?

I will be heading up to Alaska on June 17 and kickin around until August 15th. Fishing, Working, Fishing, Hunting, Working, Fishing, Fishing, Working, Fishing, Fishing..... Then back to hunt a little more!
