Fellas,

I have a 2006 Mega with the G-56 six speed manual transmission. I had the Mopar Jacobs brake put on and it works like a champ. Problem is, the switch for it on the stick shift rattles ever so slightly making a little rattling noise. I have been to the dealership 4 times, have replaced the actually entire switch assembly and it still makes a noise. I mean, not obnoxious loud, but enough where if you drive down the road with the radio off you hear it. Anyone have this same experience? Is there a fix for this, or does this seem normal. Talking to a few buddies those stick shifts vibrate fairly aggressively and seems the noise is "normal!!" Any inputs, thanks guys,

Shane

The noise is normal. There were a lot of discussions about this a long time ago. I get an O-ring that stretches tightly over the shifter knob and around the shaft on the brake switch. They usually last at least a year before breaking. This is a quick cheap fix that works. The black O-ring is hardly noticeable and lasts longer than an elastic. I also don't think it is only the Jake switch that rattles neither. I had one from a 2 speed axle set up and it rattled too.

Thanks fellas, I'll tape it and O ring it. Just enough noise that it'll drive me crazy on the 4K mile trek from Alaska to St. Louis...

Mine rattled bad also. I thought about how to fix it, and relized I only use the switch about 6 times per year, so I can turn it off in the snow. I also found that the wire would rattle against a soda bottle in the console at times.

I removed the whole center console and drilled 2 holes in the DS front position ahead of the shifter. 1 hole for the shaft, 1 hole for the LED. I removed the switch from the plastic, found the correct nut and mounted it into the console. No more rattle, and the LED can still be seen. If you do this, be sure to inspect under the console first. There is a plastic web underneeth the console you should try to miss when you drill the hole. I was not far enough away and had to remove some of this plastic so the switch would go all the way into the hole.

Just wrap some tape around the shaft and also I have to turn the knob on my switch sometimes clockwise to get rid of the rattle, try that also.

Cummings?

Sorry guys, I am really a nice guy, but Cummings?

Does the badge on your fender say Cummings? Mine says Cummins. The letter 'G' is not even close enough to either the 'N' or the 'S' to call it a fat finger on the keyboard. I see posts all over this board where guys say they have a Cummings, kind of like a Dordge? It just blows my mind.

All in jest and a good laugh.

I digress, back to the thread... . I have an automatic and get no rattle in the column shift. I can imagine the vibration being transferred up the manual shift lever.

I will see what I can do about a picture. We just took one with my Daughters cell phone, and she emailed it to me, but it never came.
