Cummins 250

The sale bill for an upcoming government surplus auction list 14 Diesel engines describing them only as "Cummins, 250 , naturally aspirated".



Does that description mean anything to anybody? I'm assuming they are something bigger than a B series with no turbo.

The Cummins 250 is a BIG engine. It is the basic Cummins engine that eventually became the Big Cam. It came in all sorts hp ratings. 25 years ago I drove a wrecker with a 250 in it. 5speed trans with a 4 speed Brownie. With a load you used most of the gears. If I remember right it was governed at 2050.

855 cubic inches, I am pretty sure. Drove one in a Euclid rock truck about 30 years ago. Blew fire out the stack at full throttle. Way cool!
