I always thought that when they started the CDL program in the '90's, it was to get all the states on the same page. Since I always had a "B" with no restrictions, I never paid too much attention to the other classes. it's quite confusing

I remember seeing 3208's swinging from chainfalls constantly when I was a kid hangin around when my Dad was on the job. Lots of them. The next pupular engine was the GM 8.2 fuel pincher. That was a little better, but once they got with the 6's then they became more reliable.

As far as commercial driving goes, all the states are on the same page. If you look at the FMCSA rules, they are exactly the same as the requirements on the link you provided.
