You can get a brand new Cummins 5. 9 with the Allison transmission now!!! That is if you get it in a Motorhome with a Freightliner chassis!!!! Who woulda thought!!
 
Yeah, it is in the front engine Freightliner motorhome chassis. So how tough can it be for the aftermarket to make an adapter kit for us DIY types to put the allison on the Cummins???

Medium duty trucks have used that combo for years, fyi.
 
I had one in a Class A 36' Coachman. . Motor and trans was great but the coach was a joke. Sold it! :cool: Mine had a Spartin Chassis.
 
Buddy of mine had a '94 Coachman with the 5. 9 and a 4 speed Allison, a pusher none the less! Imagine a 300 horse vibrator right under your bed!! :-laf Now he has a Gulf Stream with a 8. 3 and a 6 speed Allison under the bed!! :eek:

Most Diesel powered vehicles in the Medium Duty class, use SAE #2 type bellhousings. They are big and the trannys are big. You would need to do a body lift for them to fit. Also, probably no adapters for the trans to transfer case, you would need to have 2-wheel drive. The actual pieces and parts needed to bolt the heavier Allison to the Dodge CTD are readily available, however the room needed and electronics might be hard to come by.

Challenge would be to get the ECM to talk to the TCM.

Buddy of mine that sell Chevys, says it is a "light duty" Allison, that the pickup get. (This would be a flame war, if this was a Chevy Duramax forum! :-laf )
 
Why sure, it's the 1000 series, how HD can that be compared to the 2000 and 3000 series in the MDT rigs??? And don't they use the same 1000 series in the C4500 and C5500??
 
The 2000 series Allison is a lot like the 1000. Same case and a lot of the same internals. The 2400 is also in the same class. The 3000 series is a larger transmission, completely different size wise.

Cummins Allison

You can but a stand-alone box to run an Allison Auto (1000 I belive) on anything you want... . including an cummins. It will cost you a pretty penny thought, about 10 Large, Plus Labor.
 
1. The entire line of allison WTs are 6 speed capable, the clutch packs and planetaries necessary are all there, it's 3 reduction gears, direct, and double over.



2. The LCT series (aka 1k/2k) like previously mentioned are pretty much the same trans. The MH3000 is typically the trans used with a B in a motor home.



3. ISBs (pre common rail) have J1939 backbones and it would be pretty easy to hook a WT up to one (look at pretty much every school bus ever made with an ISB in it), the chrysler only can-bus common rails are a different story though...



4. You could do 4 wheel, but a divorced t-case would be a necessity.



5. I REALLY REALLY REALLY dislike working on RVs, as a matter of fact, I pretty much hate it. Ask any cummins tech what they dislike most about their job, it'll probably be the same answer. Most RV engineers must be on drugs the DEA doesn't even know about yet
