Cummins 6.7L in a Freightliner FRED Chassis

Thinking about maybe getting a motor home. (I might very well be the only person in the world). I have been looking at the Tiffin Class A units on the Freightliner in the FRED (Front Engine Diesel) chassis with the Cummins 6. 7L 300 HP, 600 ft-lbs. This chassis seems to be a nice compromise between a Ford or GM gasser and the bigger diesel pushers, which are heavy and expensive. Claims are that a MH on the FRED chassis should be able to consistantly get over 10 MPG.



Does anyone have any wisdom to offer?

It appears to be a nice compromise and if access to the engine compartment is reasonable, a viable option. Personally, I would buy a diesel motorhome like this if they are comparable in price to their gas powered counterparts vs a big, heavy, way too expensive for me, rear-engine, diesel pusher.

I signed the papers for a Tiffin Allegro 32BA FRED and will take delivery on Saturday. I sold my Arctic Fox 5th wheel quite quickly at the full asking price, so that was nice. The truck is up for sale and will replaced with a small car for use as a commuter and a toad. Big changes in my vehicle life.

Just took delivery today. A bit too soon to tell a lot, but I'm kind of surprised at the lack of perrormance. Will find out more this weekend.

I think you will like the class A. I have had both. If you do allot of traveling, the A is nice for bad weather. You dont have to get out in the rain just pull over and put your feet up. Whats also nice is the wife can make a snack on the fly. I really liked waiting for my wife to use the bathroom, wait for her to sit down on the can then start serving the rig. You would hear her hands hit the wall hanging on and start scramming you are going make me **** on myself. I would laugh till I all most cried. Aa the good old days. Have fun!

Oh ya, I think the 6. 7 will get better after some miles. If not they have chips for them.

Performance seems OK so far. Still hae not driven it much yet, but it does OK on the highway, just slow to accelarate around town. I guess 20,000 lbs will do that.
