o5 Fords are starting to - well be a FORD!

No not the 5. 9 ""600" This beastly load is being pulled by a Peterbilt with a Cummins "600" at least that is what the driver told me when it left our shop.

The Sound attenuated Generator enclosure weighs 130,000 lbs and the rig with trailer adds another 100,000 lbs. This thing is going from Baltimore to Pittsburgh. Oh Yeah, inside is a Detroit Diesel Genset with wicked loud Garrett Turbo's.

Anyway Thought I would share this rather large load with TDR, I expected the driver to tell me the rig had a CAT inside but he smiled and said "Cummins 600" when I asked him what the PETE used for motovation. :-laf

Don't worry about the DOT. They got their money to let that rig pass go. If you have the truck and trailer and LOTS of MONEY they'll let you haul it anywhere. The PA DOT had his cash before he left Maryland. I think he'll have a long ride over the Alleghenies with that pig. That Cummins will work for it. :{

Thats what my company does... Hauling heavy stuff. We run a pete 379 with a CAT 3406E 600 HP 2250 TQ engine. Just to drive through tennesse on the highway with 132,000 lbs. it costs over $400. 00 for the permit.

We just brought a CAT 345 from Louisiana to Plymouth, NC and those permits were $1,500.

We haul for a company called Bierlein, out of Midland, MI.

I have pictures of an old Cummins powered truck that a hauler owns near here that hauls power transformers. It is powered by a 350BC Cummins and has a 20 speed transmission with a top speed of 15 mph. It was capable of hauling 300k lb transformers. Its an awesome truck but its not made for over the road. Its used after the units have been moved by rail to the closest off loading area then trucked to the substation. This truck will blow out culverts when it passes over them.

When that ***** cat dies, you need to transplant a KTA600 1150 cu in. (19L)Cummins rated at about 1000hp from Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh.

I see a lot of oversized loads out my way because they can't run I-476 (formerly the Northeast Extention of the PA Turnpike). I know they have some serious weight when on occasion I see a pusher on the tail. It's not alway weight either. Saw one hung up on a turn one day. Two hundred ten feet of truck and trailer takes a bit more then forty acres to turn around. :cool:

Hey E7Mack maybe when you get sick of your "600 CAT" you can bump it up to 625. I was just at the CAT website and they got the C15 up to 625 now. Who needs that much power anyway? :)

Hey Tractorface whats the name of the company that that generator came from the reason I'm asking is I hauled a couple out of the Baltimore area myself a couple of years back.

coolky, I saw that they have 625 hp, but that is an emmissions engine. ours is pre-epa. I have been told by many that the EPA motors lose some fuel economy. We only get 3. 5 mpg average. I couldn't stand for it to be less.

Pritchard Brown.

A side note to the picture is that the enclosure is believed to be the quietest ever built. The sound next to the unit is no louder than 45DB, during testing there was a bird sitting on the roof chirping away and he was louder than the genset and caused problems with the test :eek: This thing is unbelievable. What you do not see in the picture is the top house, same size as the bottom only lighter, it houses the exhaust system as well as the air inlet and outlet portions of the unit.

The trailer is very long and has a steerable rear axle on it. We ship stuff this big a lot but never this heavy :{ I think the load was going out 70 and up through Ohio to get to Pittsburgh. That truck is gonna :{

I think the "Cummins 600" you are thinking about is the ISB-E... This is the Signature 600. For some reason, Cummins has the loudest jake brakes of all the heavy motors. . I had an 89 Pete 379, 285" WB with a coffin Sleeper, a 4¼ Cat 3406C turned up 20% over spec, Super 13 Double Over (*12th & 13th up on the dash, not down low), 3. 55's, and soot about a good foot down the stacks. . GPS unit I had with me was showing I hit 126 one day out in West Texas. . It gets kind of quiet going that fast in a large vehicle. . Oh well, its kind of a thrill. Just ask any other driver whose truck will run!

I would kill to have that new 625 Cat, minus the emissions crap. They are sheltering these new engines, and it is making them worse and worse! Granted, they do have the power to walk the hills, but they are sacrificing the good ol' smoke that goes with the power! The way to fix it???? ADD A 200 HP PITTSBURG POWER BOX TO IT!

Yep thats the same place I hauled out of I use to drive for Harris transport the one I hauled was just a shell it was about 12' wide 14'6" high and I'm not sure how long it was but it was on a double drop stretch lowboy we took it up to MA. just south of Boston it was interesting when we had to go through some of them small towns with a pole car in the front and escort in the rear. What was really neat was that the shell only weighed 10,000 LBS people looked at you real strange when you passed them doing 65 to 70 going up some of the hills on I-81 :p

GBechtold, do you still drive truck? I had a truck deliver some oil field equipment in the last couple of weeks that was from Columbia, PA.
