What's up with the vacuum pump not being able to keep up with the brake booster? Couldn't you just rebuild the existing vacuum pump?

Matt... . wish it were that easy. The old first gens (mine too) have twin diaphram pumps that are driven off the PS pump shaft.

We had to remove the lower diaphram so we could bolt up the steering box.

We thought we might be ok with only one of the diaphrams running, but apparently not.

I found an electric pump... and that seems like a good solution being that space is at a premium.

D'oh!

I've only worked on 1 or 2 1st Gen trucks and never payed attention to the vacuum pump. That's a bit of a bummer... 2nd Gen trucks have the pump between the gear case and the power steering pump.

I hope the electric pump works out for you...

Jay; Way too cool! . When is it going to hit the road? I would love to take a 1/2 night off from work to see it at Coffee Night in Derby!! Oo. ( I do not need to much coaxing to take a 1/2 night off ;) ) Moose00

When is it going to hit the road?

My son drove it under its own power tuesday night, but he was sitting on the crate. I stopped by late yesterday and the interior is basically in except for covering the HUGE hole where the transmission sticks thru.

He had a crew that was installing batteries, trying to wire lights, horn, etc. Exhaust is in and he's waiting on some air filter parts.

It should be driveable in a few days... I think he plans on taking it to a local car show friday night if possible.

This whole conversion didn't exactly take very long, did it?

Matt, He and several others have a good bit of time into it... and don't forget... . he hasn't done anything about the suspension or rear axle yet to make it durable.

He busted hump on it so he can get it out of his shop to make space for something he can make $$ on.

Sounds like this thing is gonna be a screamer! Girlfriend optional. :D Suspension... Beef up the front coils and don't worry about the rear end till it throws a spider gear through the pan! I'm sure by then he could have a Narrowed 9'' or a Grand National rear end ready for it.

Josh

This thing better be at Muncie next year!

Jay,

I can see how a project like this could eat up some hours... but it wasn't all that long ago that you told us about this project... and now it's drivable!

I can't wait to see it in person... you'll have to pry me away from it. :-laf

Matt

Well the kid came over last night and took me for a ride in the "mini beast".

The thing screams for a stock engine!! :--) Only thing is with 3. 73 gears she's maxed out pretty quick. Of course there's no speedo, no tach, no nothin yet.

I think today I'll make a call to PDR... gotta start making the shopping list... Oo. Let's see, pyro, boost, PODs,

I'll get it down to coffee night sometime after boating season... . probably Nov . It'll look more presentable by then. ;)

Jay

Beautiful. I'd like to know what the whole package weighs...

Just imagine if that thing had a P-7100, some big nozzles and a bigger turbo or two... .

Matt

"with 3. 73 gear she's maxed out pretty quick"

Based on this, what ratio would you want if you could have anything? I am still following the thought on the 9 1/4 chrysler rear. I have found a 2. 7 in a 70s new yorker and a 3. 2 in a ramcharger. The 98 church van has a 9 1/4 with eight hole wheels (3500 dodge van). This is a 'simi floating' design, not like the dana with full floating hubs.

Would it be appropriate to have some fender flares like a mini dually on this monster?

I think it depends on what he ends up with for tire size... at highway speeds we really need to be in the 2000 rpm range so the Getrag doesn't lug. My guess is he'll end up in the 3. 2 range.

As far as duallys... we like it better to keep it more stock looking ... . as a sleeper.

Matt... . no room in there for twins!!

HTML:
So what if the hood has a big BULGE in it... ?!

So this Mustang pulls along side a particular S-10 and says.....

So... ... are there twin turbos under there or are you just happy to see me? :-laf :-laf

OK, I'll keep my day job.

Jay

Matt... thanks for the link. I sent them an e-mail asking for their suggestion.

Now waiting for the PODs and gages. Should be putting them in late next week... then after a few pump "adjustments" we'll see what that S-10 axle is made of!!

Actually we want to go a little easy on it for a bit until we finish experimenting with ratios
