Well, we put in the PODs, boost and pyro gages, and made some pump adjustments.

All I have are two words... holy *****!! :--)

This thing screams! And smokes :-laf :-laf

Only problem is now it desperately needs a clutch!! And a smaller turbo housing.

More to follow when the new parts come in.

Nice! Good idea.

As for more ideas for rear ends: The GMC syclone has a 10-bolt, with 3. 42's and is AWD, so lotso stress on the parts. I had one, and the rear held up good, dyno'd at 377hp and 413lb ft. not cummins torque, but still stout (12. 55 in the 1/4 at 5000' alt). As for the 9. 25 chrysler, it is a decent axle but I've broke a few. It was available in a 5-4. 5, 5-5. 5 and 8-6. 5 patteren. it can also be drilled for a 6-lug patteren (i've done it). I have had problems witht he spiders, and have even tried an auburn. I went detroit in one witht he larger shafts, it worked but was pricey. Honestly, i'd go with either a ford 9" or a mopar 8-3/4. the 8-3/4 was available with 2. 76-up. the 9" has the best aftermarket following avbailable so ratios shouldnt be a prob. Also, I think the 9" has a larger selection of yokes so you could be able to use a 1350 or even a 1410 if you desire.

Actually he showed me the 9 inch Ford rear he just got off an old Bronco... looks like it might be narrow enough to fit in there somehow.

Jay - any plans for an intercooler of some sort?

pwerwagn is right. I used to have that same rear-end in my '91 GMC Sonoma 4x4... it held up well to all of my abuse. I've worked on and personally seen quite a few 10-bolt rearends propelling Syclones/Typhoons and Grand National/T-Types well into the 10's in the 1/4 mile. Obviously, the number of 10-second turbo Buicks far outweigh the SyTy's.

There are a few different versions of the 10-bolt in the S10's... usually, only the 4x4's get the 7-5/8"... the rest end up with the 7-1/2" ring gear version. SyTy's have the 7-5/8" ring gear version.

A 9" out of a F*rd Bronco (up to '77) should fit right in there nicely...

He talked about it at one point... .

I don't think he'll need one really. But if he does put one in, it will have to get mounted in the bed.

Jay

He doesn't need an intercooler? Even with the PODs?

I'd rather see him put the radiator in the bed with an electric fan or two... and put the intercooler up front.

Matt

yup a 9" from a bronc should fit pretty close. I know that a bronco 9" fits real nice with the track width of a jeep, only about 2" diff if I remember right, and I have seem many 44 fronts out of broncs under S-10s and they fit good, so it should be pretty close in the S-10.

Well, we've only done a few runs so it's too early to tell. I really need to take this thing out and put it to the test to determine... probably will take it to work one day after the new clutch is in. I have a couple of good long uphill runs on my normal route that will be a good test.

But don't forget... there's no weight to this vehicle so the engine doesn't have to work hard for very long.

I think the radiator is going to stay permanently up front... he had it custom made to fit perfectly.

Of course this is a development project of sorts..... who knows what lies around the corner... . :-laf

You make a good point, Jay. I imagine the aerodynamics are a bit better than your average 1st Gen as well... with it being lower to the ground, narrower, more rounded in the front...

This project is freakin' awesome... I just had to say that again.

I'll tell my son about it, but I doubt he'll go. After my boat is hauled I will probably take it one friday, but that will be late October.

I went to advanced auto in Torrington today for some parts and parked right behind the s-10. I didn't think anything of it then I'm just about to get out of the truck when the s-10 fires up with a cloud of black smoke and that unmistakeable sound  I saw the cummins badges and remembered reading about this project so I knew for sure that was the truck. (how many other cummins powered 2wd s-10's are there around :D ) That made my day, it's nice to see someone with a crazy idea actually make it a reality. Good job guys!

Did you get the brakes worked out? If not you might look into adding a power master off a Buick Grand National. They are now reproduced by a man named Hank Terry and

they would make this monster stop.

this is so cool, i want one! if you can get that motor in a s10 think you could get it in a ricer?? :-laf that would be a tight fit for a 6, and make it rear wheel drive LMAO anywas guys nice job on this one, keep up the good work.

A Centerforce dual friction clutch and a rebuild on the Getrag later, Mike got the S-10 back on the road this week.

It is also sporting a pair of bucket seats, front and rear valences, and chrome rims with low profile tires. Oh yes, and a couple of "powered by Cummins" badges!!

It's looking pretty nice so far. And it don't run too badly either... ...

A test run gave him 38 psi boost out of the stock (probably original) turbo Oo. ... now that the clutch is putting all the power to the tires.

He's going to take to our local "coffee night" tonight to show it off.

I managed to come across some 'spy photos' of this truck... the old 6BT looks SWEEEEEEEET under the hood.

Somebody... PLEASE take lots of pictures/video of that thing this Saturday at the SEEfood Challenge! :)
