So Cal Diesel Fuel $ !@#$

Ford F-150 Diesel?

Hi, guys,

My friend is looking into building up an 8. 3 for dragracing (I think its in an F800 - not sure if he's putting it in something else or not). I've also been considering picking one up for a project of my own.

Anyway, the engine is the mechanical 8. 3 with the p-pump. Does the 8. 3 respond to modifications in the same manner as a 5. 9? Or are there things in particular to watch out for - i. e. any particular weaknesses?

Also, does anyone build performance trannies for 8. 3's? I think it's got an Alli MD3060 behind it right now...

Thanks, everyone.

Chris

Thanks for the link, bmoeller. What about a stupid pump and a big set of twins - Has anyone run more than 40 psi on one of these beasts?

Chris

Gale Banks Engineering also has kits for the 8. 3 including the ISC. They are for motor home applications but I'm sure that they could be modified. 435 hp and 1200 torque for the 350 horse 8. 3 isc.

If he is going for really big HP I would reccomend a few of the companys that specialise in tractor pulling engines.

Try Hypermax engeneering. 3 or 4 stage charger setups lots of fuel and injector options a bit spendy but the top of thier field.

Schied diesel. They do lots of work on multi chargers, water systems and fuel systems.

Riverside engine. High tec pulling engine parts. From individual parts to complete engines ready to run.

Try the NTPA page. Lots of links to vendors that know how to get over 2000 hp out of a 500 ci engine.

If you like paying triple for the same product, I would go that way. . Otherwise, there are way more and better IMO vendors out there. Just my $. 02 worth.

Thanks for the help, everybody. I've been looking at some of those links, Gonzo. Anybody have any ideas on what to do for an auto transmission?

Chris

I assume that you have a auto in mind? The Allisons have been used extensivly in semi truck pulling. I am not familliar enough to tell you if the 5-6 ot 700 series Allisons units are the best for what you are doing. I had a close up of a CFI race Kenworth and they were running the 700 Allison I think.
