Do all of the Cummins diesel engines come with a block heater. I have been told that the necessary cord must be bought to use the heater that all are equipted with, but I can't find the heater. Where is the heater located? One of many stupid questions to come from a new owner with enough knowledge to be really dangerous.

the engine has the heater. it is located beside/behind the lube oil filter area. there will be a plastic cap over the connections where the cord connects into. in this picture, you can just see the orange connector for the block heater plug to the left of the lube oil filter...

I had to pay $9. 00 extra for my engine block heater. I think on the 2nd generations they were standard equip.

You were probably paying for the block heater CABLE.

That is correct, the actual heater is on all of them. The "engine block heater" option simply buys the cord.

I believe you, but it was listed as item NHK, Engine Block Heater, MSRP $10. 00, invoice $9. 00. It seemed too reasonable for only $9. 00.

from what I understand, the heater is installed in all the CTD's.

Dodge has not supplied the cord for the past 2 years.

you have to purchase it seperatly. I don't have the part number but they were asking $50 for the stupid cord. I told them that I would pay $35 and so I did. I still feel as though I got ripped off but oh-well I have a heater cord. as of today I have not installed it but I do know that the cord is not long enought to reach outside the front bumper. I bought a marine grade plug that I will attach to the plastic skirt under the bumper. this looks pretty slick, its marine grade so it is ment for the Wahington weather and it is also flush mounted.

Just an FYI- You should be able to purchase a replacement cord at any Cummins or Fleetguard dealer for about $12-14. 00.
