It was suggested years ago to get parts from Cummins ,so I have.A fraction of what Dodge wanted. For instance the steel line running from heat exchanger behind block 138 at Dodge 42 bucks at Cummins . So I walk in and order the steel return line that has a brace and one bolt hole that runs fromheater core.......257 buks. Online they run 36 dollars. Because dummy me thought it some special one in a million made of stainless or whatever ,reluctanly I ordered it and got it the next morn. Shouod I take my chanses waiting by ordering online or take it back to Cummins unopened and have the regular parts guy reduce the price ? Because the regular guy was busy at the moment,I think the guy I dealt with doesnt normally sell parts because he was in an office in the back and seen me waiting and acted kind of annoyed that I was there. What I think is he sold me the part in their system as if they were installing it rather than wholsaling it like the regular parts guy does.

Also your truck or engine serial number. PM or e-mail if you don't want it posted. I am on the road but will check this out in the morning while doing my orders from home.

From the price it almost sounds like they got you the coolant line that feeds the transmission cooler. I know that one is just stupid money.

Both lines shown here are around $50 retail.

I think that is the set-up for a manual transmission. The line for the automatic has a "Y" in order to feed the transmission cooler on the driver's side.

I know that the coolant line from the cooler to the block was over $300.00 the last time that I checked. That's the one that can chafe on the '03 to early '06 autos.

Sorry for the time lag,I picked up an 08 DC cab and chassis \Asine 6 sp. for my main truck, and did a lot of running. Cummings dealer gave a full return on my credit crd 306 .00 . Stopped at local Dodge dealer, 56 bucks and it will be here in the AM!! What the sam hell? 200 more at Cummins ? I didn't say anything, just went on about my day. The Cummins part was stamped USA maybe thats why it was rediculous. The steel line going behind the block (coolant) ran me 40 bucks at Cummins.

GardnerM,

Please provide the info that I requested. This needs to be checked out. I know that you are busy but this is not resolved.

There are people on here that want to know what the deal is.

Three possible scenarios are coming to mind..

1) You may have gotten the wrong line from Cummins...

2) Cummins has replenished stock from a new vendor and the price incresed, Dodge has old stock on hand. When Dodge orders more for stock the price will go up.

3) There is a pricing error in the Cummins price tape. That does happen, Daimler and CAT both have a team that handles that very issue. Human error can affect an OEM's pricing. If the price from Cummins is proven to be out of line I can send a request in through QuickServe for a pricing check.

So when you get a chance please provide the serial number of either your truck or engine and the part number from Cummins that you were sold. It needs to be resolved.

Got an automated call from Dodge dealer ,part was in,USA made, 52 dollars. Part from Dodge is #5086825AB. Same part # you will find if you go to moparpartsoverstock.com and order @ 36$+shping. Seems that part fit a whole slew of trucks when I went to Dodge and he showed me the phish.Same exact part Cummins shipped. I got no explanation WHY from parts desk person (Cummins) but I made it clear the reason I returned it was that 257 difference. My truck is 2003 Cummins Dodge,Ive been in and woke up so ser.# would have to be in the AM.

For a lot of years I was a PacBrake distributor and we'd often sell the Freightliner, Cummins, CAT, Volvo, dealer parts when they needed them... than 10 days later the dealer would return the parts to us... I finally decided that the dealers would order those parts back from the PDC and return them to us.... so when we sold parts to the dealers we'd put a small yellow dot (sticker) on the back of the box/package at the time of sale.... and low and behold we found they were replacing the parts and returning them to us... they just wanted the part today... not when their supply system would ship it to them.... I learned they were all snakes at times... so any time I could buy parts around them... I would....

I hated customers who'd buy something and than later return the same part, purchased from another supplier... but as bad at those service and parts departments are in those dealers... if you can get away with it.... I'd go for it..

In the dealer's defense (kind of) what motivates much of that sort of behavior is warranty. The dealer is faced with making the customer wait until the parts come from the PDC or getting the part locally and losing any chance of profit (or in many cases losing money) to get that customer back on the road. It was reaching epidemic proportions in the Bangor area so I called all of the Parts Managers and offered the following solution.
If a part is needed from another dealer to handle a warranty situation the affected Parts Manager is to be called and asked for permission to return that part when the stock comes in. That way the Parts Manager can hold off on the reorder so that an additional part is not ordered to replace the part sold. When you are dealing with parts having thousands of dollars in value plus core charges that can add an additional two thousand dollars you do not want an extra on hand if it a slower moving item.
This was agreed to by all of us and works very well. That stopped a lot of it.

Mike.

Wish I had the Cummins part # but I returned it for full refund. 52 dollars @ Dodge dealer in East Moline Il. 257 @ Cummins .Thats insane.
