2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Cummins/Dodge commercials??

Yeah, I know we don't need a commercial But I'm so sick of seeing these out of proportion Chevy commercials and these built Ford tough commercials. I think DC should just have a black screen and all you here is the Cummins fire up; no words or anything.

From my Folk's farm you can't see any roads, but you can hear the straight-piped Cummins guys tooling around neighboring farms and roadways.

But instead of just hearing it start they should run it up a grade and go threw the gears. It would be assume to here that gruuuuuuum swooooooosh sound as they stand on it grabing gears. Then as the sound fades out you see the words come across the screan

A Cummins PoweredDodge Anything else just wouldn't be the same

like they taught us in marketing school, you push the weak sellers and try to preserve the strong sellers. gm is advertising because they are presenting a new motor, ford because they sell the most pickups in the world, and have to throw the money somewhere. the last ctd commercial that i recall was yers ago when they had competitive diesels pulling a piece of landmoving equipment up a steep grade, anyone remember that one?

i don't think i have ever seen a dodge/cummins commecrial. . but i do like the new 1500 dodge one, the one with the 2 guys doing donuts in the field.



a great commecrial is that new subariu commecrial. with the guy and gal looking at the deer. then bubba pulls through the bush with the exploder and scares the deer away... are they trying to sell subariu or ford???

I remember that one Packman, Back in 92 or 93, I was taping a special on loud stereos in teenagers cars and during one of the commercial breaks that one came on, it was cool seeing all 3 of the trucks line up, cool music too, I never planned on keeping that stereo special, but since I caught that commercial I never erased the tape . It's still in my room somewhere.

I think they need to include in their commercial the fact that most over the road trucks have inline-6 motors. One of the most common points brought up (atleast to me) is that the Dodge has a 6 where the Ford/Chevy have V8s so they have to be better. The average consumer doesn't grasp why a inline motor is better than a V configuration for pulling. You can't blame 'em... everyone knows a 8 is better than a 6! I wouldn't be surprised if the average consumer thinks "big trucks" must have V-12 or V-16, etc... it would really put it into perspective if they were told they had "puny" little inline 6 motors.

Just think of it this way; It takes Ford/Chevy 8 cylinders to do what Cummins does better on 6 cylinders.

When most of the "big" trucks are using 6 cylinder engines, why would Ford/GM spend millions and millions of $ developing "new" 8 cylinder diesel engine? Do they know something that we don't or they just dumb?

That's the question I've often asked.



I think it's mostly the dumb part. I think they started out with a pile of leftover parts and got in too deep to quit.

Speaking of commercials, do any of you guys remember back in 89 when the Cummins first came out, Dodge ran a commercial of a SRW Cummins pulling trolley cars up the hills in San Francisco? I'd like to see them do more commercials along those lines-not stupid stuff like pulling oil tankers through a field of ice.

I think they went the V8 route because it fit better, other than the ISB I don't think there are any other Inline-6 engines that are light enough to put in a light duty truck (I definitely could be wrong) and a V8 gave them better street light to street light performance which makes it feel more powerful to the typical light duty buyer. . . Just MHO, although I could be speaking out of ignorance which happens on occasion.
