Competition Muncie Drag racing results?

Off Roading heat straightening axle tube

I've made it to Indy in 13hrs and 13minutes plus three to get to denver plus one to get to muncie is just 17 hrs and 13 minutes. BRING THE RAIL

We blew out #6 piston, but we are still planning on coming.

Go to www.cumminsracing.com and scroll down on the main page...

Photos of the burned piston and injector.

We are already going back together. We are planning on going, after we get it back together and tested.....

EGT's?

The EGT's are over 1800 in less than 1 second into the HP turbo, and then the LP turbo hits 1800 at 3. 1 seconds... .

Kinda hot.

Data recorders are critical at this point. Learn more on each run than you can imagine.

For comparison, Dad's '96 ran 14. 3s at Bandimere, and ran 13. 3s down here at sea level on the coast of NC. NO changes were made to the truck... just a different day and 5000 feet lower. The runs were less than a month apart. The thicker air down here makes a huge difference.

When I ran in Mission at sea level way back with my truck I ran 13. 97 then went to ashcroft and ran 14. 09 at 2900 feet. then the week after went to seattle which is sea level and ran 13. 99. These were all in three weeks back to back.

With our race car I ran at mission and go 9. 90 at 162 and in Boise I go 9. 90 at 160mph. which was 4200 feet. so we were obviously down on power. One thing that I have found seems to be the faster you are the less you are effected. I bet you would pick-up about 3-4 tenths and about 5-6 mph.

Getting Excited

All I am hoping for is a clean run, 8. 99 or better. Since we ran 9. 11 on 5 and 1/2 cylinders, and 9. 39 on 5 cylinders at 5800 ft, I think we will see a 8 at Muncie.

Will the track hold? How well is it prepped? VHT????

I have a new tuneup to try, little lower compression and a few other tricks. Probably screw it up.

Just coming back to have a good time and see all of the TDR guys...

Scott,

Was it high egt's that caused the burnt piston or a injector tip that broke? You cant see where the injector spray pattern was so I wonder if the tip failed and was leaking fuel. I'm curious why your egt's are so high so fast.

Failure analysis

The B100 actually runs the same temp as Diesel. (close)

We had a slight miss before putting a killer tune up in it. We have seen similar failures with a nozzle hanging open, and I think that this was the cause.

Not a big deal. Should have boomed a long time ago.

The timing and tight turbo we run causes the high EGT's. We could make it a lot cooler by throwing a puller tuneup in it, but we would have to spool against the torque converter for a week or two before launch.

I can't wait to see that thing @ TiM next week...

Excellent pass - before she blew.

Good luck with it!

That pass should make Doug Doring realize how well the Cummins runs.

He whacks his 6V-53 with a LOT of NOS and has run 9. 27sec @ 142 mph... I don't know what his truck weighs or what his short times are, but it comes out of the hole REALLY hard.

I REALLY love how the 2-stroke Detroit's idle when you play with the governor.

:--)

Matt

Neal,

Did he turn any good times, or make any full passes?

I haven't talked to him in about a year or so. Last I knew, his son was trying to break into the scene... but was too tall for the truck...

Matt

Loaded and ready for Muncie

Got the motor back together, warmed up, and ready. Loaded in the trailer, and planning on leaving Denver Thursday for TIM.

See you all there.
