after the problems i have been having i wanted to look at other boards to see what kind of problems they have. in all seriousness the other brands have serious problems.

duramax: cavication problems, many many injector failures, etc.

6l: well the list would be to long

I say all this to say i have been upset about the Dodge part but i will keep my truck for the Cummins b/c there is really no other choice. and this is an unbiased decision b/c i was really was considering getting a Duramax.

THe 2004. 5 will have totally redisigned head, injector lines on and on. guess what all you duramax owners from 2000-2004. 5 you are out of luck you can fell assured you own a piece of sh%$ that will not make it 150K without some type of injector failure. of course some will but it sounds like many will not. get on the dieselpage.com

love the cummins dodge part looks good feels good just has issues on mine  but i watched my wife pull off in the truck today... ..... Oo. as she let off the pedal in 1st all i heard was sheeeeeee... ... . oh yea... ... . i cant get rid of this thing. i am back

I thought you might see it differently after doing some research! No vehicle is ever perfect, and sometimes you get one with more issues than average, but looking at the big picture items, these are very reliable trucks. The important question is, does it get you and your passengers / cargo to where you are going safely and reliably.

You leaking gasket could stop you from running, but most of your other issues sounded non-catastrophic. A gasket should be easy to fix and doesn't reflect negatively on the quality of the engine in general.

Whenever an OEM part fails on me I always look at as an opportunity to put on a better aftermarket part when available!

Welcome Back CC

I thought it might be the silencer.

My brother warned me that the wife and kids would not like the silencer removed especially when hitting the highway with our travel trailer.

I just got back from Priest Lake Idaho, and in our camp loop the Dodges CTD out numbered the Ford PSD 5 to 1 and there were no Duramaxes.

In fact there were two third Gen Cummins my quiet Standard Output sounding quiet not diesel like and a guy from Utah in a Dully heavily bombed 5" exhaust and probably everything else his was louder than I thought you could make a third Generation, which I am sure will please some. I didn't get a chance to talk we were always heading the opposite direction I would of like a ride in his rig to feel how powerful the CTD can be.

As for me I will leave well enough alone I tow about 7K and with the five speed I can still pull 65mph up all the grades around here in fourth which is 5 over the limit for trailers in Washington. So Goodnuf 4 me:) :) :)

i was not the silencer!!!!!!!!! i was joking. i still have the whistle had to listen to it on the way to and from Mobile AL. today. i am getting in the shop as soon as i can!
