cummins engine model designations

Hey guys, I have a question that seems to be a really hard one to answer. I drive a 1995 CTD ram 4x4 that has caused my whole family to jump on the cummins bandwagon. This leads me to my question. My Dad is in the market for a used diesel pusher motorhome and has found one that is advertised as being powered by an 8. 1 liter CTD. Now I have done lots of research and have only found reference to 8. 3 liter models, and then the N14 Celect models. Has anyone ever heard of an 8. 1 liter version? The motorhome is being sold by a broker and he swears it is not an 8. 3 liter. Any thoughts? I tried to politely suggest that it was a typo, but got shot down.

wasn't there a 4 stoke diesel sold by GM that was 8. 1 liter?



i kinda remember seeing one in a C60 dump. can't remember if it was 8. 1 or not though.

They have a 8. 1 Vortec V8 gasser I know. Diesel, what is the displacement of a 6V or 8V-92 Detroit?

I think that was the 8. 2 Detroit V8... a rather lackluster diesel at best.



Isn't a 6V-92 displacement 6 cylinders (V-configuration) with 92 cubes each cylinder. Same with 8V-92 or 6-53 (inline) and 6-71 (inline) and so on. Thats what I always thought.

Strongly suggest looking at it for yourself. Cummins is pretty easy to identify. Look for the little tag on the front of the engine on drivers side. All sorts of good info on that tag too.

the way ncostello said it correct. 6v92 means 6 cylinder v configuration 92 cubes per cylinder. also the same for the rest. 6v92ta are what we run in the coast gaurd 47' motor life boats. ta meaning turbo aftercooled right below the supercharger.
