Cummins Engine to lay off 200

Saw it on Bloomburg TV on Wednesday, cant remember what plant it was at but I was shocked with the news, Its obviously due to the slow economy and the bleek future.

I sure wish the economy would turn around , we need it bad, I dont know how many jobs were lost this year from all the layoffs but I sure wonder how all these folks are making it nowdays ???I know the DOW sure shows the lack of confidence in this mess turning around again. Seams that the rich are getting richer and the middleclass are getting unemployed. How long can we go like this ? I for one am very fortunate to have a stable job... ... ... ... ... ... ... . I pray for all of you needing jobs.

It is the engine plant in Columbus In. They are shutting it down and moving it to N. Y. if I remember right.

The number was more like 2000.



It will be had for the affected people. I have been threw shut downs and movements. It is always hard. I am currently layed off from a plant being moved. So I know what they will be going threw pretty soon.

Cummins Engine Plant in Columbus Indiana will move assembly operations of the ISX/Signature series engines to Jamestown assembly plant in New York (current manufacturer of the M11).

Last engines will roll out tentatively in late December.

Plant will remain open for Block and Head machining.



This plant is often referred to as Plant "1" in Columbus, it is the Largest Cummins Facility (to my knowledge) and to me was like the heart of the City.



About 200-300 people will lose their job at Plant 1, some with upwards of 10 years with the company.



Columbus Midrange Engine Plant (where I work) will not be affected and business is good for us.

Sorry that the Signature plant is moving

I toured the ISX/Signature plant in 2001 and saw a lot of employee pride there. One of the plant maintance people was recruited to assist the engineering team on a plant upgrade a few years ago. He was a very sharp guy and said that the "B" plant used a lot of their ideas when it was built. Hate to see it moved . Larry

So do I. I don't like seeing anyone loosing a job. I have shut down/moved to many places.

Along the same lines I heard on the news a couple of weeks ago that Dodge was hiring 2000 workers for it's truck line due to more demand than supply.

I wonder if they'll offer to let the Columbus guys move to the Jamestown plant? Our club president works at the Jamestown plant - it's a very nice area.

If I read this right, this might be the first time in the history of the State of New York where somebody moved jobs to NY. It has to be one of the least business friendly states in the US. I don't understand the logic of that one.....
