Folks, my machanic buddy of mine sent me this letter that he received from his supplier today. I assume these are oil filter numbers, but check it out:

Cummins Filtration regrets to inform you of a product containment request. As the result of a potential

quality issue, we are asking you to check inventory for the following part number.



LF3363, LF3363SC, LF3374, LF3379, LF3380, LF3453. LF3566, LF3656, LF3671. LF376S,

LF3773, LF3931, LF3974, LF3976, LF9026, LF9027, LF9667, LF9691, LF9691A, LF9931

This product Recall affects filters manufactured between March 2010 (Julian date 10069) and January 1, 2011 (Julian

date 11001). The date code is located on the smooth domed end. The Julian date is the first five digits of the eleven

digit date code printed on the domed of the filter (Example: 11001-1828 12:03). If a Julian date cannot be found or is

unreadable, please consider this a suspect product.



A potential quality defect is associated with the inner element of these filters, which could cause a lack of lubrication

and ultimately result in engine damage.

‐To return the product, please ship to the address below via FedEx account # 289429484.

‐For return shipment above FedEx weight limit, ship freight collect via common carrier.

Wow, this sucks. It's good to see that they are willing to admit that there is a problem and they are getting on top of it before it causes someone greef down the road.....
 
It seems that the filter recall does not effect the 5. 9L and the 6. 7L engine oil filters. Their part numbers are LF3972 (Oil/Standard) and the LF16035 (Oil/Stratapore), at least these are the part numbers in Geno's Garage Catalog.

Hmmmm... . I guess that is what happens when you take a once good product and start making that same product south of the border. Quality goes downhill maybe? I don't ever remember a recall on filters when they were making them in Tenessee. Just wondering is all.
