I have to guess that it would be a close fit but should go,however, without actually going out in the shop and measuring the one on the shelf I am not sure. I wonder how it will perform against what we already have available? How did you figure out that this would cross reference to our rides Bill?..... Andy

Dimensions are very close, however I would like to see FleetGuard say that it is an acceptable application for something besides a Kubota.

Maybe there is an announcement I have not seen yet. Will scan issue 71 when I get home tonight.

EDit--- Just did a little quick reading at lunch and it doesn't look like FleetGuard is going to come out and say it.

Baldwin offers the same filter it's number BD7317 I think. Works well have one on my 05 right now. Oil seems to stay cleaner a bit longer than it did with the stock filter. The Baldwin lists the filter fo a Kubuta product which has the Cummins 5. 9 engine. Oh, the Baldwin filter is about $14 each at LI Truck parts

Bill is most likely using the online Ryder Fleet Products site.

They have a huge assortment of truck parts and supplies for sale online.

All Ryder shops are under strict orders to buy from the online site unless the product is not available, then they can soure parts from local OEM dealers.

Anyone can buy from them.

The link to the filter is Ryder (This will take you directly to the filter even though it only shows Ryder again as the link)

I did some internet research on this filter and can't find where it is approved for our engines. It was originally designed for the ISC and larger engines and the Kubota ISB. There was another forum that posted a letter from Cummins that stated the pressure drop from the filter was too much for the Dodge application and they were working on a Dodge filter. But that was several years ago, so I don't know if the current LF9028 will work correctly. The Baldwin is similar, as is the amsoil. I'd like to use it but not without knowing it is approved by Cummins.

I'm running the Baldwin filter, oil pressure is the same as it was with the stock filter. There was a thread on here that linked to a Cummins page that had a full report on these filtersand they'r feelings were that this was the way to go to make the engine oil as clean as possable. The Kabota product is used in construction, HEAVY DUTY work cycle. Our trucks do not see that kind of service. Marine engines see a much harder work life than our engines do and these filters were shown for use there as well.....

The filter is probably ok to use on our trucks but I WILL NOT use one until such time as I can prove it in the Fleetguard applications.

Reason being is that in the very remote possibility of a filter failing and loss of an engine as a result of that failure I would not want a filter manufacturer to tell me that I was using a non-approved filter for my application.

They will walk away from any responsibility and rightfully so.

What if the 5. 9 being used in the Kubota application has a higher capacity oil pump and can handle this filter where our engines might not???

When it is in print on Fleetguard's site and catalogs I will use it. Not until.

as is the amsoil.

The Amsoil filter is not a full flow & bypass filter in one.

The LF9028 is . 012 wider than LF3894

The LF9028 is . 017 taller than LF3894

It is a Kubota application. If somebody has time give Cummins Filtration a call.

Should have listen to Ed.

Just heard from Fleetguard, here is the response.

Michael,

Thank you for contacting us using FleetMaster. You are correct that at this time the LF9028 Venturi Combo filter does not have a Dodge application. The primary application for this filter is Kubota. We do understand that many Dodge owners have chosen to us this Venturi filter. We also understand that they are extremely happy with it's performance.

However, at this time we cannot officially recommend it's use in this application as there have not been adequate tests nor has Chrysler authorized it's use. Please be aware that use of this filter on your Dodge may adversely effect your warranty coverage. You will need to check with your OEM (Dodge) for clarification. Thanks again and have a great day!

Thank you for using FleetMaster
