2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Cummins garage sale??

I need some input from the members. My rig is for sale in the classifieds, but there has not been much action yet, maybe just a tough time of the year. So, I was thinking of pulling off some of the mods and selling them, enabling me to lower the price. Is this feasable? Some of the stuff to be removed would be the Jacobs exhaust brake, the EZ, and maybe the roll top bed cover. Any advice will be ponderd. Let it fly... ... ... . Sarge :-{}

You could... It all depends on the buyer, some people want the extras, some don't. Some take them into price consideration, some just want low dollar... What an answer... it all depends, kinda like maybe . Maybe you should bring your truck here to sell, it seems like used cummins powered dodges rarely last over 2 weeks on the lots.

How much for the the transmission I'd like a 6 gear .



For the most part it seams add ons won't generally add much to the selling price of a vehicle. Ie. a couple grand in add ons won't necessarily make your truck sell for a couple grand more. That's not to say someone won't pay the price for a truck in pristine condition with some mods/add ons if they know what they want and know what they are getting. I know I'd never be able to sell my truck for anywhere near what I've got into it.



As far as bombs go I've always figured someone would be hesitant to buy a bombed truck, cause generally a bombed truck is driven like a bombed truck (I know mine is )



Depending what you could get for your used accessories there is a good chance you'd be ahead by selling separately but how much and will it be worth the trouble of removing the old and replacing with stock.



Try advertising it as a stock truck with the option of keeping the accessories. Keep the receipts handy and tell the buyer for $XX the truck is yours but for $XX you can have the accessories with it that are worth $XX.



I hate selling vehicles, for one I always wanna keep em and just get more and for two sometimes it's a PITA to sell em.

You are right, in the world of race cars and hot rods, you can expect to recover about 25-30 % of your investment. It is wiser alot of times to take it apart and sell. I to do not think you will get anymore for your truck with the add-ons. I know if I were in the market for a diesel truck, I would not look at or buy a diesel that had many add-ons. I would just figure the guy ran the hell out of it and now wants to pass it off on someone else. I have certain rules, like never buy a 4X4 from anyone under the age of 30. Never buy a used motor cycle or atv that is less then three years old. Never buy from anyone that describes the item for sale as "like new", "better then new", "perfect shape or condition". There is no like new, it is new only once and that was the day you drove it home. Anything for sale is not better then new, and it would not be for sale if it was perfect. Know one ever gets rid of something that is "perfect".

I think it would be pretty smart to take off the items that are fairly easy to remove, and sell them separately. When I traded a truck in that was heavily modified, I removed alot of the easy stuff, and in the owners Manuel I left a note stating" if you would like to know more about this truck, call #" Well the truck sold the second day on the lot and the new owner call. I ended up selling him most of the stuff I removed, and he got the low down on the truck, worked out good.

Well guys, that just may happen. There is not a lot of stuff on there that I would try to take off though. Probably the EZ, and the exhaust brake. Most the other stuff would not be worth it. The truck really is pristine though. I'm only selling it because I was so tempted by a 04', and right now I can afford the payment. I may not be able to in 4 years when I retire. I will probably keep it as is for a few weeks and see what happens. It's listed in a few other places, so I will give it a chance to get a little exposure. Thanks for the input though... ... ... You know, I did go on the site and looked at it, but I'm not too sure about the process though. I have sold a few small things on e-bay, but nothing like a whole truck. The process is a little intimidating... ...

the closer to stock your truck is, the broader your market will be... you'll probably get more money for it on this board, but if nobody on here has any money right now, you'll probably do better putting the truck back as close to stock and selling it at a lower price. unfortunately, in the open market, the stuff you've added to your truck really don't increase the value very much if any.

Sarge- I had to do this in order to sell my 96. It is about the only way to recoup some of your add ons. It is very difficult to find someone willing to pay for what you've done to the truck, and they'll pay you just as much for it without all the goodies.



That being said, if you deciede to go ahead, I know someone who would be seriously interested in the brake and the EZ (no not me, but I know someone).



As for E-Bay?? I'm a junkie, and it iw where I sold my truck. I got more for it on Ebay than I was getting locally. Crazy as it sounds, the guy flew down from Portland and drove it home. I couldn't believe it myself until I had the check in my hand. It's worth a shot.

i did the same thing when i bought my 98. 5 in orange county (when i was living in san francisco) from a TDR member. the wife (gf at the time) and i hopped a shuttle flight down there we got picked up at the airport. kicked some (almost bald) tires (yes i learned some lessons on that one) jumped in and had a nice little road trip home.

Well, the garage sale is off, I sold it today!! Late last night I got an e-mail from a gut that saw it on the IRV2 site. He wanted a contact phone #, so I e-mailed it to him. His brother from Norco called me last night and made an appointment to come and see it this morning. Turns out he is 70, and loves driving a standard transmission. He looks at it, we start a test drive, he drives about 2 blocks, and says "no reason to go any further, I'll take it".

He brought the check back in about an hour, and I gave him the pink slip. Now the real agony is waiting for mine to be built... ... . ;-) Sarge
